❝I JUST WISH I COULD'VE SEEN HIS SMILE ONE MORE TIME BEFORE YOU KNOW...❞

THREE WEEKS. That's how long Christopher Ryans has been missing. During those three weeks, Stanley has been with his boyfriend? Ex-boyfriend? Boyfriend? Ex-Boyfriend? Stanley has been with his classmate's mother to comfort her, and vice versa. They both just want their boy back, but it just seems so odd. In a small town like Derry people just don't go missing without any trace of where they are. It's almost like he just floated away without a sound or a trace.
For three weeks, Stanley has to pretend not to care that this boy who made him feel everything all at once is just gone. He has to pretend like this is just someone who didn't matter and he just went to school with. Stanley Uris has to continue to snarky remarks at Richie Tozier's inappropriate jokes, or listen to Eddie Kaspbrak ramble about germs, or hear Bill Debbrough talk about having to babysit Georgie Denbrough. When all he wants to do is tell his friends the truth, that's he is hopelessly and m undoubtedly in love with the boy who went missing.
He just wants to yell it out at the world that he's hurting. That every night he lays in bed begging for Christopher to come home. Which leads to him crying himself to sleep, and waking up to the sunrise with dried tears on his face. It's the same bullshit routine Stanley has to go through. And no truly understands how this feels but Christopher's mother. But he can't keep bothering her because she's clearly hurting just as much as him.
Nothing feels the same, and one song certainly will never pass through his ear willingly ever again. And despite showing his friends the familiar field that used to be green, but now is dying just like Stanley's heart, it's not the same. Because everywhere he looks he sees either the two of them holding hands, laying on the grass, dancing around in a fit of laughter. Or sitting where Stanley is now on the bench, with his hand cold because Christopher's not there to hold it.
The world is loud. Especially when his friends are running around in laughter, with a small Denbrough coming with. But to Stanley? It's quiet. He sits alone on the bench, up until the moment a sympathetic Richie came over. "Are you okay?" Everyone knows Richie isn't a sentimental person you could say. But that's far from the truth. Richie has secrets of his own.
Everyone has secrets.
Something about being able to hide your emotions until someone asks if you're okay is not satisfying. So the second the questions rolled in one ear out the other, he erupted in tears. "Richie, I love him. I'm utterly in love with Christopher Ryans and I just have to sit here and pretend I don't love him when I do."
Richie nodded, and at Stanley's last few words he glanced over at nothing, his mind wandering to a girl in their grade named Cassiopeia Wylie. He didn't want to admit that he understands having to pretend you don't love someone but in this case, he's not going to. "I understand, you have no idea."
Stanley glanced at Richie, "I just wish I could've seen his smile one more time before he you know..." Stanley trailed off.
And little did Richie now just how painfully true his words would be. "I believe you will, soon." Because soon, Stanley would find himself in a bath, feeling an emptiness in his heart that never got filled, because he always saved it for Christopher.
