Month 1, Day 14
Two weeks have gone by, and it was as still as enjoyable as he thought it would be. The Melapetals and the shenanigans that they and Cider go through are as funny as he'd expected- making him laugh more than he's ever had in a long time. They even had a new employee that started a little over three days ago- Scarlet Ackerman, who attended the Portland State University (arguably the best university in Oregon). She's rather quiet, but she was nice to be around and shared his sense of humor. Scarlet got used to the shenanigans easily- she stopped flinching around the Melapetals' seed bombing quicker than him- that was for sure.
She was almost like the big sister of the group- Miss Eden took notice of that as well, and started treating her as such- making her run errands and whatnot. She rarely complained about this since the errands were light and she was given donuts when she succeeds, so it was all a fair game for her. Cider couldn't get over the free donuts, but then he and this artist named Teal became friends (he swore that every kid on this block was named after a color) and after that he started rubbing his donuts in everybody's faces. He still shared with them though, but not without some gentle persuasion from Teal and... less than gentle persuasion from Scarlet.
Teal and Scarlet were both nice people- and he figures that most of the other people that come into this shop would be the same. Certainly a lot better than the other customers that he's had to deal with on occasion back in Cornwall- most of which always demand some sort of discount even when the sign clearly reads 80 percent off... they almost gave his parents a run for their money when it came to haggling. People here were reasonable, and he was thankful for that.
While he stayed inside the computer lab most of the time, the Melapetals did take a like to him, having been taken care of with the most care that he's ever had to exert. The Magnolias in particular flocked to him now rather than Cider, and so did the Cloves. Cider made offhanded remarks about his personality when he noticed, and at first he didn't get what he meant by him being some dignified rich kid- but that was only until Miss Eden gave him the mandatory guide book days after his internship. Cider told him that she was inconsistent in giving them mandatory things like the guide books, saying that he got his at least three weeks after his inclusion.
It was more or less just a book on flower language- but it did explain the rich kid comments that Cider kept throwing at him (he was low-key offended, but he let it slide because they really were affectionate when it came to him). This also explained why the Docks and Ferns glowed when he was assigned to feed them.
He was growing more and more fascinated to this whole new world of gardening, and he had no intention of wasting this once in a lifetime chance. His coworkers were kind and helpful, the customers always had something interesting to say, and the Melapetals were the sweetest creatures he had ever gotten he chance to meet.
