Month 2, Day 10
The tenth day of this meticulous cycle passes by, and there really wasn't anything new going on.
Cobalt was out of his office, tending to the Melapetals in the greenhouse. By now, he's gotten used to pretty much all of them- including the ones that didn't want anything to do with him the first time he came in the glass building. They were the ones that contrasted his character, so he wasn't terribly surprised when some of them left some... rather unsightly changes in his office. They've gotten used to him though, and he wasn't the one that got the worst treatment from them it seemed- Cider had told him one too many stories about the nippier Melapetals playing some Eden-level pranks on him.
"I still have that burn mark on my shoulder- I mean, it was on accident, but MAN did it hurt!" He told him one day while they were on break, showing him a small but nasty burn mark on his shoulder. Cobalt couldn't sleep properly that night after seeing that.
He was feeding the Melapetals, when the greenhouse door opened and Cider entered. Sure enough, the usual flocking of Melapetals toppled him over again. He had to wait for Cider to gently pry off the offending cuties before the taller man stood up and told him to go over to the office.
"What- why is that? I'm not in any trouble am I?" Cobalt cautiously asks his friend, snapping the food containers shut. Cider waves off a dismissive hand as he goes over to the pots where the Bulbs were.
"Nah, I think the Boss just wants to introduce you to the new guy... girl... uh, person. She said something about you getting some mentor practice or something, I don't know." He says with an unusually tired and disinterested voice, which set off some red flags in his head.
"Uh, is there something wrong with them? You sound kind of tired..." He said, already feeling anxious about the new person. Cider gave him a weird look, but he shook his head.
"They're alright... it's just that they're a bit hard to communicate with. Not anything foreign, but they just kind of seemed uncomfortable talking to anyone... anyone open anyway..." He says, rubbing his hand behind his neck. Cobalt just raised an eyebrow, but nodded anyway.
"That doesn't sound too bad, actually." He replied in a matter-of-factly way, but Cider just snorted and took a jab at his friend's own social awkwardness. Cobalt simply rolled his eyes and made his way to Miss Eden's office. His doubts remained though- anyone who could make Cider have any sort of difficulty in a conversation was either really shy or really dangerous. Whatever it was that made his Manager think that Cobalt could manage talking to someone like that would have to be incredibly bizarre... but then again, this was Miss Eden that they were talking about here. She's the most bizarre person he's ever met in his life- period. It wouldn't be too far off to assume that she just gave him this job on a whim.
Taking a deep breath, he opened the door to Miss Eden's office. As soon as he took one step in, he was practically tackled by a super-enthusiastic Miss Eden.
"Cobalt, you're finally here! We need you and your super keen observation skills!" She then grabbed his hand before he could say anything, and dragged him beside her side of the office table. Opposite them was a somewhat short brunette with green eyes and a nervous stature. Cobalt felt almost sorry for the person- being that meek wasn't a very advisable thing to be when you have Miss Eden in your life for at least even a few minutes.
"Now, Viridian, was it?" Before the person could speak, Miss Eden continued. "You have a really pretty name, are you sure you're not a girl?"
This seemed to push the person to talk, so they rose up a bit in their chair and spoke. "I'm sure... I don't really have anything to go by so-"
"And it's the most unusual thing to see a gender queer around these parts! You're bound to have some interesting stories to tell!" Miss Eden said to the person, who flinches awkwardly. Cobalt clears his throat. This conversation as going to get really dangerous if it keeps progressing the way it does. The sound catches Miss Eden's attention, and she gives off a little 'oops'.
"Ah, yes, this is my employee, Cobalt! He's an intern, just like you. I'm sure he can help you with some questions that I've prepared to get you started." The red flags were raised once again, and Cobalt had to physically restrain himself from flinching. Him- giving an interview? Miss Eden has officially gone off the deep end then...
Miss Eden was oblivious to his little panic attack though, and continued. "After that, he'll show you the ropes around the greenhouse!"
This time it wasn't just him that was taken aback by the manager's words, as the person struggled to form a coherent statement at the time. But the manager has spoken, and it was time to begin the awkward 2 hours of conversation and interrogation.
