    Kate pulled out her keys to unlock her front door, it was dark just getting dark now and her eyes already felt heavy from the long day.  She just wanted to get a shower and maybe take a nap before she went back to the hospital.  Opening the door she looked around, the wedding presents were still piled in her living room untouched.  After the accident Kate had started staying at her old apartment, to bad it’s where all the presents were.  Throwing her keys into the tray she walked into the kitchen to get some water, she set her mail down and noticed a manila envelope in the pile of bills.  She pulled it out and opened it sliding the contents onto the counter.  It was a letter along with a flash drive.  Opening the letter she walked over to her computer as she read.

Dear Katherine,

    I hope this letter finds you well and that you enjoyed your gift I sent you today.  I find that I have no need for her now that I have your husband, oh sorry, I guess he’s not really anything to you now.  He was so persistent that I send Johanna back to you and keep him.  I never understood your relationship myself.  Always protecting the other, you have to understand that it is a dog-eat-dog world and you have to protect yourself.  I told you that we would meet again and I’m a little saddened that you didn’t put the pieces together sooner seeing as I thought it would be so obvious me destroying your wedding and all but you two just had to go threw with it.

So I took away the one thing you cared about most.  That precious writer of yours.

    Kate fell into her desk chair her hands shaking as she tried to breathe.  Looking down at the flash drive she put it into the computer, her mind still reeling. Pulling out she phone she texted Javi while the file loaded.

Kate: I need you NOW!

Esposito: Be there in 10

    The file loaded and Kate opened it her heart pounding.  It was full of about twenty photo’s.  Her heart dropped when she saw them, it was Castle, in a chair bound and gagged,  blood running down his arms and bare chest.  In one photo he was looking at the camera, his bright blue eyes grayed and filled with pain.  Her doorbell buzzed and she got up to get it hurriedly.   

    “What happened?” Esposito asked coming in as soon as she opened the door.

    “It was the 3xK, he’s the one who had my mom and who kidnaped Castle.”

    “I know, well I got the idea as Johanna was talking.  How did you figure it out?” Esposito asked as she led him to her office.

    “He sent me this.” Kate said handing him the letter. “And he sent me these pictures.” Kate said pointing to the computer.

    “I could get these to Tec and see if they can’t find anything.” Esposito said before looking at Kate.  “Are you okay?” He asked, Kate reached over and pulled up the photo of Castle where he was looking at the camera.

    “No, I’m not.” Kate said unable to look away “I never wanted to accept that he was dead but now… That may have been better than this.”

    “We’ll find him Beckett, why don’t you go ahead and get your shower and get back to your mom.  I’ll go and look into this, if I find anything you’ll be the first to know.” esposito said removing the drive.

    “Thank you” Kate said walking Esposito out.

    “I love him too Kate, we’re gonna find him.” Kate nodded trying to have a little faith in his words.  

After he left Kate locked the door and went to her bedroom.  Picking up her phone she sat on her bed and called her dad.  His phone rang a few times before he picked up.

"Hello?" He said.

"Hey dad"

"Katie, what do I owe the phone call?"

"Something happened today"

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, bit is had to do with mom's case."

"Alright what happened?" He asked.

"It's kinda complicated,  can you come over?"

"Yeah I can be there in a half hour." Jim replied Kate let out a sigh of relief.

"I'm going to jump into the shower so just let yourself in."

"I will, see you in a bit sweetie." Kate said goodbye and hung up and went to get into the shower.  The water felt good on her skin as she stood there. Closing her eyes she stood there and let the water flow over her stiff body.  She heard her dad call out as she stepped out of the shower twenty minutes later.  Throwing on some jeans and her NYPD shirt she walked into the living room smiling at him.

“Hey dad” She said hugging him.

“Hi, what’s going on that you needed me to come over?”  Jim asked, Kate bit her lip.

“You might want to sit down.” She replied, he looked at her before taking a seat, she sat next to him taking his hands in hers.

“Katie what’s going on?” Jim asked looking at her.

“It’s about mom.”

“Her case?”

“No her” Kate swallowed hard.  “Dad, she’s alive”

“What?” Jim asked in shock.

“She showed up to the 12th today, Lanie ran DNA and it came back as a match to mom’s.”  Kate explained. Jim froze unable to speak.  “She’s at the hospital right now.”

“Have you talked to her?”

“Yeah, she’s been held for the last 14 years.” Jim didn’t say anything he only brought Kate towards him hugging her tightly. “She wanted to see you” Kate said burring her head into his neck.
