Darkness. It's a strange, comforting existence. So inviting yet feared throughout. Intriguing to think of all the possibilities of what hid inside and terrifying for that exact reason.

Some people would call others mental for being comforted by the dark and others taunted for a phobia of the black void.

Some people find it to be caring, as if it enclosed itself around them for a sense of physical ease; some find it to be cruel and heartless and leave them to the empty, lightless being.

Draco found it to be conflicting. Both sides clashed in his mind as his eyes desperately tried to escape and accept the blackness surrounding him. One side told him to be a part of it, allow it to flow inside his soul; the other side screamed at him to escape before it made him result to insanity and loneliness.

He felt his head pounding, each strike putting more stress on him. It was unhurried and unsatisfying. The pulses seemed to grow in pain with every bash seemingly increasing in torment.

His eyes finally snapped open, witnessing the face of an apoplectic father. He saw the pure hatred in Lucius' eyes, feeling his aurora engage a war with his father's. The loathing from his father was clear as the raging battle or glares surge onward.

Draco felt his body ache and protest at any slight movement. He felt warm, thick blood trickle from his curled lip. Bruises of all shades covered his arms and were in various spots on his chest and torso; his aurora was torn and weak but still fought against the fury of his father's evil aurora.

"It's about time you opened your eyes to witness this," Lucius huffed through gritted teeth. His knuckles were red and busted from the beatings he gave his own son, and his hair was wild, some stands clung to his face from the shimmering sweat that beaded his furious, unforgivable face.

Draco looked in horror at his beaten and broken body. Realization made way to his mind when he looked back to his smirking father; he realized his father cared nothing for him. He could easily stand proudly over his son after beating him, but when Draco would be upset or angry, he'd be ashamed to be the father of a 'disobedient and horrible excuse for a son.'

"Why, father?" Draco said withholding the hurt and angry tears that crept into his eyes after he saw Lucius grimace at the word 'father.' He felt betrayal from his father, wondering why he would abuse his son.

"Why?" He insanely laughed. "Draco," Lucius snarled, "You have no idea what the Dark Lord is capable of. This is a gracious pardon considering what he would have done to you."

Draco groaned at the blow he received to his stomach, wincing at the pain that rattled through his nearby ribs.  He felt another hit on his cheekbone which cut from his father's membership ring that sat proud upon Lucius' hand.

The silver ring wrapped comfortably around his thick yet bony fingers. It engraved a small Dark Mark on the visible side of the ring; it stood out boldly compared to any other silver Lucius wore, perhaps due to it being made purely from dark magic.

Lucius snorted. "If your mother were here, she'd certainly not approve. Perhaps it's best she's not, at least the Dark Lord can't touch her."

Draco suddenly stopped his glare, concern slipped into his silver eyes. "What do you mean 'if' she were here and that Voldemort can't touch her?"
