I have so many other drafts of this one 'drawing'...

The thing about MS paint- after you get used to it it's easy. Btw, remember to save now and then. That's like the only reason I take forever on my MS paint stuff.

SO STEP ONE, find open that document that you would like to trace on MS Paint. For me, I'm using this photo. Then, next, you find a suitable property size. To change the property, you click on File and then you'll see it down the list. I usually have work around 300 x 500 px but eh find whatever works best for you.

STEP TWO, after you resize your picture, you should click on the curve tool and set your 'Color 1' to white because at that point, you're tracing our your own digital thing. And after you trace everything that you need, you're going to go to Properties again then revert the colours to Black and White.

(By the way, if you revert it to Black and White and then you realised that you missed something, you can't go back unless you saved your document.)

STEP THREE, after reverting it to Black and White, you can see that a few pixels are missing but never mind that. You're going to have to change it to Color. The reason why we changed it to black and white is that you're able to get all that extra thing you don't want. So, it'll look like this.

(you should press Save As then go to PNG pictures. That document will be your checkpoint AND REMEMBER ALWAYS TO SAVE YOUR DOCUMENT)

STEP FOUR, you're going to have to learn how to use the eraser tool. Let's say you want black lines and a white background than white lines and a black background. Then, what you're going to do is change the background to a different colour with the Paint bucket tool. After that, set Color 1 to white and Color 2 to black. If you right-click on the white lines, it's going to change to black.

BUT IF THAT DOESN'T WORK, press Ctrl + a and ctrl + c, then open up a new MS Paint. What you're going to have to do is ctrl + v to paste it on there. Remember to save because that document is where you're going to add on.

An easy way to remember which colour is which is that for Color 1, you're going to put the tone that it initially is then Color 2 is the colour that you want it to switch.

STEP FIVE, after changing the colours with whatever you want, you can get this. As you can see, the skin colour as a different line colour than Valerian's hair. Not sure how to explain but eh, it's just an idea :') Your whole piece could be of the same line colour, or it could be different.

What you can see is different is that some of the lines are in strange colours. Like Valerian's shirt is lined with a dark blue and the shirt colour is a light green- Well, that's because I haven't chosen the colours for his shirt yet :') The reason why for those dark colours is that you can see the mistakes that you make. It's like seeing a dot of purple in light green. You can look at the details you're missing.

STEP SIX, the colouring. How I colour, I use four separate colours. You can use more- not saying that it's wrong. I don't want to work too much and forget to save :') The first one would be the lining which is darker than the rest; the second one would be the shading, the third one is the lighting, and the last one is the base colour.

Since I already coloured the hair, I used brown as the base colour. Then, we're just going to build off that brown colour:'). A little lighter of the base colour will be the lighting. A little darker than the base colour would be the shading of the hair. Then a lot darker than the shading would be the lining of the guy's hair.

When it comes to something else than hair, I use only two colours. One is the shading while the second colour is the primary base colour. I'm sluggish when it comes to colouring...

Sometimes when you colour, you're going to have to add some curvy lines for the shading effect. Let's say that you're trying to decorate a shirt; you're going to have to make the clothing folds for the shading.

STEP SEVEN, after the colouring, choose a background image and do any touch-ups.

I'm not the greatest explainer, but it's a little something to get you started. And yes, I still think I'm a beginner at MS Paint :')

Here's a tiny tip or something since you decided to stay with me: there's a tool called resize and after you click that, you can either resize or skew your image. But when you skew though, start off small. For me, 15 is the max, but that's for you. Do whatever you want on MS Paint and happy drawing!
