Your POV
it's the day after your date and you are checking over Jay who is no longer on the ventilator.
"all good" you utter while you update Jay's chart. You notice him starting to stir
"good morning Jay" you say as you check your watch to make sure it's not afternoon
"how bad was it" Jay asks to get a better judgement of his predicament
"the bullet didn't hit anything vital but it did do some damage that had to be repaired" you say
"can you get Will please" he asks
"yes I can anything else" you reply
"just a thank you" he says just as you leave the room
A moment later you have told Will that Jay is fine
"excuse me can I help you?" you ask a man who is uttering
"umm...yea.. no" the man says
he is delirious. you page Doctor Charles in the knowledge that the man might have schizophrenia. Two minutes later and Doctor Charles has arrived
"what can I do for you (Y|N)?" he asks
"see than man over there" you say pointing to the man who has going back to the waiting room
"can you observe him for a few minutes at tell me if he has schizophrenia"
"ok I will tell you after five minutes of observation" Doctor Charles says relaxing you a little bit
Four minutes later and the man is back in the ER
"you need to help me" the man says as he pulls a gun on you
"ok just put the gun down and then we see what we can do" you say as you get up
"they're telling me to" He says, the man is shaking all over
"whoever they are they are they won't get you here" you say trying to clam the man down but it's not working
"stay where you are" the man says as he points his causing Will to stop in his tracks
"(Y/N) what's going on?" Will asks
"he has schizophrenia" you say quickly
"we have an even bigger problem" April announces
"shut up all of you" the man yells
"look we have a patient incoming we need you to put the gun down" Doctor Charles says
"no they're telling me to" the man says
Five minutes later and the EMTs have arrived with an unconscious patient
"GCS 3 intubated on scene" the paramedic says as you run along side them
"no not her " the man with schizophrenia says
"too late get him to trauma room three" you say. The man tries to pull you away and in the process he shoots his gun and the bullet hits you in the chest causing you to stumble on to the ground
"Ethan take over for (Y|N) and Maggie call 911 tell them there is a hostage situation" Will says
"look we are going to give you a mild sedative"
"oh God" the man utters
"oh God they told me I needed to"
he has come to the realization of what he has done
"Will..." your sentence is cut short by your breath getting raspy
"here" Will says as he passes the man some meds
"and can someone get me a needle quickly we've got a tension pneumothorax"
he bends down by your side and he puts pressure on the gunshot wound
"Will just remember I'll understand" you utter lovingly
"here you go doctor Halstead" a nurse says as she passes Will a needle
"can you keep the pressure on the wound for me" he commands but you can feel yourself fading
"one two three" is the last thing you hear properly before you fall unconscious
Will's POV
You have counted the ribs and you insert the needle and her breathing becomes clearer
"Get (Y|N) into the OR immediately and page doctor Rhodes" you command but your mind is racing to find ways to get the love of your life better
two hours later with Sharon Goodman's permission you are pacing back and forth in the family waiting room when doctor Natalie Manning approaches you
"Will are you ok?" she asks
"no I should have stopped him...that man who shot (Y|N)" you say feeling overwhelmed by a sudden feeling of guilt
"look Will there is nothing you can do but hope" she says trying to consul you
"Nat you don't understand I have been trying to hold it together for the past two hours but the truth is I can't bear to see someone love in a life-threatening situation" you say finally snapping
"look I'm sorry Nat I should explain..."
"Explain what the fact you have feelings for (Y/N)" you says making you feel better
"excuse me" Natalie says as her pager goes off and she leaves.
A minute later you have decided to sit down and you are thinking what you can do to make (Y/N) smile
"Connor will she be alright" you ask seeing that he as scrubbed out and in the waiting room
"she will be fine" Connor replies filling you with relief.
