Fire and Promises

Even though it was from a distance, from her small living place, she could see it.

Flames licked the sky in a fury of red and orange.

Even from a distance, she could tell from where the flames were burning; Doflamingo's home.

It had only been a month since his mother had died. And now something else had happened.

That was how she found herself now; running as fast as she could towards the site of the fire. What she saw nearly knocked the breath out of her. There they were. Doflamingo. Rocinante. Their father. All three of them were hanging crucifixion style from the windows and blindfolded. Crying again.

Without thinking, she ran at the angry crowd beneath them, grabbing the first thing she touched as a weapon. Anything she could use to defend her new friends. Help Doflamingo.

"Stop it! Stop it! Just Stop! Can't you see they're hurting?!" she yelled at the men, using her weapon, a thin pipe, to fend off the attackers. But it was of no use. With the swing of a strong arm, she was thrown back into restraining arms. Preventing her from any movement.

"Shut up you bitch! They're World Nobles!"

"My sons...They were just two and five! For the crime of crossing in front of a World Noble... they were shot! Sixteen times! They died on the spot!"

"I was once a slave! They took both my eyes for sport!"

The angry cries seemed to blend into one another. Their anger and pent up frustration was plain to see. And all of that anger was now directed at them. One of them brought out a bow and began shooting at them. How dare they?! She tried to cry out again, and again, and again. Lash out somehow. But each time she was silenced with a punch. One of them kicked her in the stomach and she collapsed, almost passing out from the pain. Doflamingo seemed to hear my pain. My attempts to fight back. I was hurt. He began to speak, though I couldn't hear through the pain.

"I'll get even...not gonna die!...survive...I will kill every single one of you jerks!" and with that, a violent wave seemed to explode over the crowd, knocking everyone unconscious. Everyone except me for some reason, so I managed to get them down without a hitch. Things only went downhill from there.

Doflamingo was offered power to get back at everyone who had wronged him by a man he had met a few days ago. Unfortunately, this included his father, a sweet man who had miscalculated the world beyond pristine white fences. Poor Rocinante had slipped past even my notice while everything seemed to go from bad to worse. Which got even more so when Doflamingo was denied access back into the Holy Land, the home of the World nobles, for being a part of a renegade family that had broken away from them. Though, in a way, she was glad Doflamingo could stay. This way, she could continue to be at his side and make sure he didn't do something that could get himself killed.

Author's Note: Thank you for being so patient with me. It's been a while since I last published a chapter. As sad as this may sound, I've actually found a proof-reader to read over my story; my mom in fact. Please continue to be kind to me. Thank you.
