The day it happened, it was hot. Sticky even. The humid air was making her smooth, blonde hair frizzy and wild. And the close crowd of people was making it worse.

She was regretting wearing a pair of red leather boots Doflamingo had gotten her.

Thankfully, Doflamingo had found the perfect spot to peacefully spectate a moment that would go down in the history books at one of the biggest things to happen: the execution of Gold Roger, captain of the Roger Pirates and declared King of the Pirates.

When she had read in the newspaper that the Government had finally captured the man and had him in their custody, she almost spit out her tea onto everyone. Gold Roger had been a man that many pirates looked up to with respect and fear as he had been able to avoid arrest throughout his adventures across the world. Yet here she was, along with hundreds of other people, watching for the moment when the noble pirate man would meet his end.

As he walked up the platform, his words washed over the hushed crowd.

"Destiny. Fate. Dreams. As long as there are people who seek freedom in this life, these things shall not vanish from this earth."

The man proceeded ask the executioners to loosen his shackles. To his disappointment, they didn't. His audacity was amusing to her. If only she had gotten the chance to speak to man herself.

Just then, a man yelled through the crowd to the Pirate King.

"Hey Pirate King! Tell us where the hell you hid your treasure! Is it in the Grand Line or someplace else?! You found it didn't you? The legendary treasure – The One Piece!"

One of the soldiers tried to silence the man, but to no avail. Oh you sad little man. Once a man like that gets a start, he won't stop. She knew that about men very well.

Gold Roger seemed to find that amusing too, for he let out a loud and joyous laughter. So tremendous that it seemed to shake the entire square.

"You want my treasure? You can have it! I left everything I gathered in one place! Now you just have to find it!"

And with those final words from the King of the Pirates, he was executed.

Suddenly everyone broke out in a cheer. The poor Marines present had not realized what this meant for the world. The man who had obtained wealth and fame and power and everything else the world had to offer had just gave them permission to search for his legendary treasure. He had with his final breath sparked a new Age of Piracy that would not end until someone followed with Gold Rogers words.

What most could only imagine at that moment was the new possibilities and new pirates that would continue to appear over the next twenty and more years.

Author's Note: I've been having some computer difficulties with Microsoft Office, so I thought I'd post this chapter while I still could. It could be a while before I can post more chapters. Who knows.

Anyway, of all the scenes in One Piece, this one was one of my favorites; Gold Roger creates the sparks that in turn creates a new Age of Pirates, which has yet to end in the anime. Plus the scene with him when he asks the guard to loosen his chains is funny. Like it? Hate it? Post a comment in the section below and let me know your thoughts.
