We lay there for a while, thinking about the baby. I am so happy to have a child with Peeta, but I'm still a bit scared about being pregnant. Peeta interrupts my thoughts when he says:
"Do you want something to eat? I'm starting to get hungry." he says, kissing my temple.
"Umm, sure." I say, a little sleepy. We get up and Peeta lifts me up in bridal style. I giggle. He walks into the kitchen and sets me down on a chair.
"Would you want sandwiches?" he asks, opening the fridge.
"Yeah, that sounds nice." I say. He walks over to me and kisses my forehead.
"I love you, Katniss." he says, walking to the fridge again, starting to make cheese- and ham sandwiches.
"I love you more." I say teasingly. Peeta looks at me and smiles.
"It's gonna take a lot of convincing to make me believe that." he says, kissing me again, this time on the lips. I stand up and grab his neck. Then I think of something and break away from the kiss. Peeta looks concerned. I never break away from a passionate kiss willingly.
"What's wrong?" he asks and strokes my temple once.
"Peeta, earlier today when you talked about that abortion thing..." Peeta interrupts me.
"I'm sorry if I upset you, it was never my intention." he says.
"No, Peeta, you didn't upset me. I just feel like you would do anything for me to be happy, even mention abortion, even though you hate the thought of it. Promise me that you will start telling me more of your needs, I would feel so much better." I say, getting tears in my eyes. I hate these mood swings. Peeta hugs me tightly.
"Okay, Katniss. I'll do that." he says. "Do you want a sandwich now, darling?"
" 'Kay." I say, giving Peeta a small kiss as a thanks. We eat two sandwiches each and put the rest in the fridge for tomorrow. After that, we go to the living room to watch TV. When we don't find anything interesting we decide to go to sleep. Peeta had a tiring day at the bakery, so he feels a bit sleepy. When I am about to step into the shower, I feel warm, solid hands on my waist.
"Can I join you?" Peeta says with a smile.
"Sure." I say, smiling widely. He steps in after me and I turn on the shower. He starts rinsing my hair. It feels really nice.
"What did you do today while I was gone?" he says.
"Well, I woke up and felt sick. I took the pregnancy test and it was positive." I turn to face him. He places his hands upon my stomach.
"We're having a baby, Katniss." he says, looking into my eyes. "Together."
"Yes we are." I say, starting to rinse his hair, too. He smiles.
"You know, there's only one bad thing about you being pregnant." he says. I smile.
"What's that?"
"We don't have to try anymore." he says and smiles too.
"Who says we can't?" I say, pulling him down to my level.
"Nobody, I guess." he says, pulling me over for an everlasting kiss.
Peeta
I wake up when I feel Katniss get up from bed. I get up too, and just when she is leaning over the toilet, I get to her. I hold back her hair until it stops. She cleans her mouth and hugs me.
"Uhhh... I hate this stuff." she says. I kiss her head.
"Don't worry. It doesn't last the whole pregnancy. You know what? I think we should go and see a doctor. I'll call and make an appointment right away."
"Mmkay." she says sleepily. I kiss her forehead and walk to our bedroom. I pick up the phone and call the hospital. I've memorized the number in case there would be an emergency. The receptionist picks up quickly.
"Hello, Twelve's hospital on the phone, how can I help you?" she asks with a squeaky voice.
"My wife is pregnant, and we wonder if we cold have an appointment to check up the situation." I say.
"Alright, how far is she?" the receptionist asks.
"We don't really know, that's why we would want an appointment." I tell her. I feel Katniss' hands on my shoulders.
"Okay, well let's see... Mrs. Adams will be receiving you on Monday next week, will that be alright?" she asks. Katniss starts massaging my shoulders.
"Umm, sure!" I say, a little distracted by Katniss' touch. "What time?" I ask.
"How about three o'clock?" the woman asks.
"That sounds perfect." I say, turning to Katniss. She smiles.
"What are the names?" the receptionist asks.
"Katniss and Peeta Mellark." I say, and the woman gasps. We are still famous, even though the Games are over.
"Oh... um, yes, sorry, I'll put you up for an appointment next Monday at 3 o'clock, then. Thank you and goodbye!" the woman hangs up.
"What was that?" Katniss asks, kissing me. I suddenly realise that we are still naked. I wonder why she didn't put anything on.
"How did you suddenly get so happy?" I ask Katniss. She laughs.
"Mood swings, I guess." she says and gives me a quick peck on the cheek. "Come on, let's get dressed before something happens." she says with a wink. We get dressed and then Katniss says:
"We should tell Haymitch, you know. He would want to know about this."
"Yeah. Why don't we go right away?" I say and take her hand. We walk over to Haymitch's house and knock on the door. No answer. So we just walk inside. When we get to the kitchen, we see Haymitch sleeping with his face in a pool of alcohol. I go over and try to wake him up. It doesn't work.
"Well, I'll just have to do it my way then." Katniss says, and fills a bucket with water in the sink. She walks over to Haymitch and holds it above him. We mouth 'One, two, three', and then she empties the bucket right over Haymitch's head.
