"Taehyung," a voice snapped with impatience. "Will you help me out here?"
But in no way was Taehyung even close to focusing on his job.
The thing is, he had just gone out of the house with a hysterical toddler crying after him and it was a severe understatement to say that it wasn't absolutely heart wrenching for the elder to have to go through that.
But that aside, he had more worries to fathom.
Like, the endless stacks of paperwork all scattered all over his single desk, and the unhelpful fact that they all needed to be completed by that day at exactly 11.59 sharp.
But seeing as Taehyung had the attention span of a child's, and many other important errands to take care of, it was nearly impossible to finish the paperwork anytime soon.
When Taehyung finally snapped out of his daze- or more like climbed out his pool of guilt- he finally looked up at the source of the voice, and was soon faced with none other than his co-worker- and not to mention one of his closest friends in his workplace- Jung Hoseok, who was staring back at the younger boy clearly unamused.
"Will you quit zoning out on me? You're not the only one who has to finish this load of bullcrap here," his friend had emphasised.
Taehyung, not bothering to answer back, just proceeded on whatever work he could start with so he could get over with it, but most importantly so that his hyung would stop interrupting his train of thoughts from operating.
Once the elder had stepped out of his work space and slipped into his own, Taehyung let out a breath he didn't realise he was even holding.
He grabbed his phone from the side of his desk and decided to phone his two other hyungs who were on baby duty.
The other side of the line only rung continuously, until Taehyung finally gave up and ended the call. He figured maybe the three of them were busy having fun. Though he couldn't help the anxiety boiling up in his gut.
What if Jin and Namjoon were having trouble caring for Jay? What if Jay gives them both a hard time? What if-
Taehyung's thoughts were abruptly cut by the ringing on his phone. Immediately he picked up.
"You called?" Jin went.
"Hyung hey," Taehyung exhaled. "How. . . How are you guys doing?"
"Quite fine actually," Jin replied. "We just finished bathing Jay. He's actually a real sweetheart."
Taehyung smiled into the phone at that. It was nice to hear Jay was not misbehaving. He could finally concentrate a little on his work.
A few minutes after Taehyung had ended the call, Hoseok stepped into his desk again. But instead of fiery red eyes Taehyung had expected for not focusing yet again, he was faced with rather big and worried ones, which was rare, because for a first, the elder never got scared of anything.
"Did I hear what I thought I heard?" He began.
"What did you hear?" Taehyung narrowed his eyes a little.
"You're. . ." Hoseok slowly said. "You're a father?
And that was how Taehyung had lost one hour of his oh-so-precious work time trying to explain everything to his dear colleague.
-
It was a little past eight at the time, and Taehyung grew impatient with himself.
Surprisingly as quick as the day passed, he had finished most of his work and now he was left with just one more stack which was a miracle for him.
But he was aiming to be home by nine latest, and with only less than an hour left, he didn't think it would be possible.
"Taehyung," Hoseok peeped from his desk. He was staying back with the younger as well, seeing as they both were responsible for the job. "Are you almost finished?"
Taehyung looked up to see many other workers either leaving or packing up their things, whilst he sat there with a desk so unorganised.
He sighed before saying, "Well yeah I gotta finish like, one more pile."
Hoseok chewed on the inside of his cheeks before proceeding to walk towards his fellow coworker and smile at him.
"I'll help finish them for you," He offered as if it was no big deal. Taehyung thought he had heard wrongly.
"You really don't have to," Taehyung said, but it was almost impossible to believe his refusal judging from the tone of his voice. He cleared his throat.
"No, go home and rest," Hoseok insisted, already taking Taehyung's papers and putting them on his much neater desk. "You deserve it."
Taehyung just stared at his hyung with gratefulness and adoration and choked out a small 'thank you' before proceeding to pack his things into his small sling bag and walk out of the door, a little bit too eager but heck he didn't care.
Truthfully, he wanted nothing more but to reach home and see his long awaited baby sitting back home probably anticipating the elder's arrival just as much as the elder was anticipating to see the younger.
He owed Hoseok big time.
