The Good In Goodbye

27 5 7

You helped me spread my wings
And fly
But now it's time to say goodbye.

Eventually we'd have
To do
What today we're going to.

You helped me through my life
So far
So instead of flapping now I soar.

This simple word, goodbye, is
Sorrowful
But saying it doesn't have to be dreadful.

Goodbye is letting go of
The past
For not everything is going to last.

Goodbye is sacrifice for what's
Ahead
They can come true, those thoughts in your head.

When we say goodbye, it'll be for
The better
For very big words are made of very small letters.

I wrote this when I was ten, when I left my daycare and the people I'd met there. I ended up giving copies to the people who ran it, and I will forever remember the looks on their faces-

Awe.

They liked it, they thought it was actually good. They, adults, were thoroughly impressed by a child like me.

"You wrote this?!"

"Yeah." I remember being a little sheepish.

"Oh my God."

And even today as I look back, I'm proud of it, and proud of the fact that I had the courage to give it to someone, to share it.

And now I'm sharing it with you, in hopes that you might like it, too. I hope this gave you a little positivity, a new light to sad words. Goodbye is so often portrayed negatively, and it often is.

But it doesn't have to be.

And sometimes, I think, it's the children that know best.

..............

So this is goodbye between us for now, and I hope you enjoyed this collection. It's a scattered puzzle of my thoughts, my feelings, and me, and it means a great lot to me that you made it this far. If you liked this, please check out Relations, my new collection!

Love you ♥️

Goodbye for now.
