I woke up to my Dad's voice. I looked up and saw that Derek had fallen asleep sitting up with his arms around me and my head in his lap. My dad was standing near us and I looked over at him.
'He's free to go when he wakes up. Got the results back and you were right. They also found wolf hairs on the body. I want to talk to him later but it can wait until tomorrow.' He grinned then. 'So nothing's going on, huh?' I glared at him.
'Nothing is going on. Just go let him sleep a bit more.' My glare softened when I glanced back at Derek.
'Ok, I'm going.' He smiled as he backed out of the room. I glanced back up at Derek and was relieved to see that he was still asleep. I was still wrapped up in his arms and was having difficulty moving- I didn't want to wake him up whilst doing so. I managed to skilfully slip out of his arms and sat next to him instead.
I was wondering again about the reach of my 'power', if I could do more than feel his emotions. So I closed my eyes and sat cross legged. I sort of cleared my mind and tried to sense Derek's mind. I could sort of feel it so I extended my mind and tried to reach it. Before suddenly I was in a forest.
I looked around trying to figure out what was happening. And then I smelled the smoke.
Spinning around I saw the Hale house on fire and a young Derek watching it burn with tears streaming down his face. I tried to move towards him but I couldn't, I was stuck. It was then that he started to scream.
Suddenly I was thrown from his mind and found myself back in the cell. I shook off the weirdness and looked to Derek who was still asleep but was tossing and looked distressed. I moved forward and shook his shoulder.
'Derek. Wake up. Sourwolf.' His eyes snapped open. They were glazed and confused so I kept a strong grip on his shoulder, grounding him. 'It's over now. Laura's with them, wherever they may be. They're not in pain anymore. And you are safe.' He shook then, a sob making its way through his throat. I tugged him towards me and held him as he shook. We sat like that for a little while until eventually Derek calmed down.
'I watched them burn Stiles. I always watch them burn, I can never move, I just stand there and watch my family burn and I scream.' His voice was hollow and detached.
'I know. But there was nothing you could do then, and there's nothing you can do now. As hard as it is Derek you have to move on, they wouldn't blame you so you shouldn't blame yourself.' I murmured quietly.
'You know? Why do I feel like you might have meant that literally?' He asked curiously.
I laughed nervously, 'Maybe because I did? I was sort of there... in your dream... I swear I didn't really mean to I just sort of was playing around and kind of tried to get into your head and it worked... Look I'm really sorry and I know it's like a total invasion of privacy but I was just testing a theory and I swear I won't do it again.' I was rambling a little and Derek's eyes had blown a little wide.
'You were... inside my head?' I nodded in confirmation. 'How did you know how to do that? Did you only see my dream? Can you read my mind? Oh god, I sound like you.' He shook his head as he looked at me, still in shock.
'I just sort of knew I guess. It's like a sense, I closed my eyes and I just sort of felt for any other consciousnesses, yeah I think that's the right word. Once I found your... mind, I just reached for it- like I was trying to touch it with my mind, and then I was just there. Yes I only saw your dream and as of right now, no I cannot read your mind. I could try but I want to do some research before I go playing around with this stuff.' I was more than a little confused and I knew that the best idea was to attempt to understand this before experimenting with it.
Derek nodded. 'That's a smart plan, and I know just who we can go to for help, at some point after all of this is over that is.'
'Oh, Dad said that you are free to go but he wants to talk to you tomorrow.' I told him.
'The game's over and since your dad isn't responding to any calls from the High School I'd say that Scott managed to control himself. Can you give me a ride home? It would also be a good idea to call Scott and find out what happened, update him on my release as well.' Derek said as he got to his feet and helped me up before walking in the direction of the door.
'Course I can give you a ride home and yeah, I'll call Scott, just let me talk to my Dad for a sec before we leave.' By this point we were at his office and I headed inside as he waited just outside the door. 'Hey Dad, I'm gonna take Derek home. Will you be home tonight?'
'Probably not kiddo, I'm still swamped here. Sorry, Stiles.' He was, I could see that, I may not feel his emotions the way I do with Derek but I could still read people.
'It's fine. See you tomorrow then.' I walked out of the office. Derek pushed himself off of the wall and followed me to the door. When we were sitting in the Jeep, I looked at him. 'Do you want me to take you home or do you want to stay at my place again?' I asked him.
His head tilted a little as he considered, 'Your place. You should call Scott.' I nodded back at him and pulled out my phone. Scott picked up on the third ring.
'Where were you? I controlled the shift dude and I kissed Alison.' Scott's voice got a little hazy towards the end.
'That's great for you Scott, I've been at the station sorting out your mess. They got the results back by the way. They found wolf hairs on the body so the killer was animal not human so Derek was released, no thanks to you, also the body? They identified it. Her name was Laura Hale and she was Derek's sister.' I was seething. My voice contained barely concealed rage and I was practically vibrating. 'He didn't lay a finger on her Scott. I'll talk to you tomorrow.' I hung up. 'Why am I so mad? I don't think I've ever been this angry in my life. God Derek what's happening to me?' I looked over at him.
'I don't know but we'll figure it out, I promise.' He reached out and placed his hand on my arm and it was gone. Just like that, the rage melted away and I was left calm and confused.
'Let's go home, I need to sleep off this weird day.'

I swear that boy was cursed. The next thing on the list of terrible things to happen was that Scott thought he had attacked Allison, who turned out to be just fine- the bus driver however, not so much. So of course he thought he had attacked and subsequently killed him. He hadn't by the way, that was just the psycho alpha being his usual psycho self. Derek taught Scott how to remember, and Scott disappeared on his date with Alison, meanwhile Derek was payed a little visit by Mr. Argent. Long story short, Scott and Derek had a small fight and then Derek dropped the bombshell that he didn't bite Scott and the alpha did- the same alpha that wants Scott in his pack. So yeah that happened, it was a pretty stressful day and I never got an answer to my question all day- am I attractive to gay guys?
At the end of the day, after the fight, Derek came into my room through my window- at this point I wasn't even surprised. He draped his jacket over the chair and pulled off his boots before settling down on the floor.
'Hey Derek, I have a question, it's been bugging me all day.' I murmured into the quiet room.
'Go ahead Stiles.' He sighed quietly.
'Am I attractive to gay guys?' I asked and Derek made a sound like he was choking. His emotions went completely haywire for a moment before settling on to something akin to amusement.
'Of course you are Stiles. Now go to sleep.' And so I did, with a grin on my face.
