Noelle
I walked into the school with my hands tightly wound around my backpack straps, a smile present on my lips. Suddenly, I was knocked to the ground, my books sprawled on the floor because I forgot to zip my bag shut earlier that morning.
"Oh, no." I mumbled, trying to grab my books before they got stepped on.
"Here, let me help you." A voice spoke from behind me and I looked to see who it was. A boy with a freckled face and brown eyes stared back at me, holding my chapter book.
"Uh," I said. My stomach sank with the weight of a million butterflies. I could feel my cheeks turn pink. What was happening to me? This couldn't be love, could it? I mean, I was only ten. Maybe this was just a little crush that would be gone in less than two seconds. Or maybe, I was going to spend the rest of my life with.... Noah, I remembered his name because my friend, Ashley, said she liked him. Oh well. I'd have to deal with that problem later. Because right then, this beautiful boy with beautiful chocolate brown eyes was waiting for me to say something. Words were on the tip of my tongue when my mind went completely blank. And all I could think about were his eyes. His gorgeous eyes.
"Noelle, right? You're the new girl? Is everything okay?" He asked, showing unsubtle concern for my mental health.
I nodded to indicate that everything was, in fact, okay and finally said, "You have really pretty eyes."
He gave me a strange look, handed me my books and gingerly walked away.
This was my first encounter with love, even if it wasn't real love, and, hell, it was not going to be my last.
