009. VIDEO SOUL!

❛  I'm successful,
but I'm far from
ignorant and big-headed.
I have money, but
I'm not selfish.
God gave me
a voice to sing with
and when you have that,
what other  gimmick is there? ❜

"Welcome back to video soul, I'm you're host Donny Simpson. At only only twenty years old this singer-songwriter is being groomed for huge success and superstardom, like she doesn't have that already. Her debut album, Sweet Sexy Savage already has three hot #1's on the charts and has been certified Diamond already. The best is yet to come for Ms. Stormi Evans."

"Hi, how are you?" Stormi waved, getting comfortable on the leather couch.

"I'm great, it's really good to see you. We've been looking forward to having you. You came on the scene in a big glamours way, just knocking the charts down with Advice, Keep On, Personal, and Too Much.

"It felt incredible just knowing that other people relate and like the songs that I put my whole mind, body and soul into. It was just a big sigh of relief."

"How did you start you're journey of music?"

"Well I've always loved music. I started writing songs at about 12, but my career started one day while I was in LA. I'd been trying to find a record label to give my demos to and this particular day, I see Teddy Riley at a coffee shop. I give him the demo with my number written across it, the demo had two songs which were, Remember The Time & In The Closet. About maybe three weeks later, I got a call from Michael Jackson and he told me that Teddy gave him the demos and he loved the songs and he want to know if he could use them on his upcoming album. I said yes, and the next day Teddy passed the demo on to Andre Harell and I was signed to Uptown within a week." Stormi was more than blessed, there's no ideal way on how you get out into this business. Hell its not even assured of you stay in the entertainment industry for a long period of time.

"You're kidding?" Donny asked with wide eyes. She glanced over, taking a notice into the color of them. They reminded her of DeVante's, a sweet honey hazel. Man she really did miss him, despite her bunched feelings she truly did miss his voice and seeing him smile.

Once she came back into reality, she noticed everybody including Donny was staring her down waiting for her response. Awkward

"Nope, all real life." Embarrassment fell over her face as she nervously chuckled.

"Wow, that's like a movie, seriously that's a dream at eighteen years old. How long did it take to get you're album complete and where you wanted it?"

"I'm blessed. I got signed in the spring of 1990 and I was finished with the album by January of 1991." Thanks to the help of producing from Teddy, Michael, Babyface, Al. B Sure! and DeVante, her album was a debut success.

"Wow. How about you and writing songs. Working for Michael Jackson must felt incredible, who else do you have in mind?

"It was, I've always adored Michael and it was incredible to write on his album and even lay some background vocals. Going on to other artist . . . I'm working with SWV and I'm also looking to working with the boys from H-Town, Janet and Tevin Campbell this summer."

"Really, he was here about a couple of months ago. Gushing on how he would love to work with you."

"Aww, he's adorable. He has such a soulful voice and heart to be so young." Stormi gushed, she was really excited to work with him. He was genuine and very mature for his age.

"Yes he does, it was joy to have him here. I must say, you are one busy lady. How many tours have you been on, so far?"

"I went on my own tour, SSS from September of 91' to around January of 92'. Then I went on tour with Mc Hammer, TLC, Jodeci & Boys II Men from February to June. And now I'm getting ready to go on the road with Jodeci again, Mary J Blige and Father MC."

"Is it draining? That's a lot in a matter of a year and a half."

"For me, no. It's exciting to say the least! I probably won't be able to do stuff like that as I get older, but while I can I will."

"This success that you have, you're debut album is almost diamond certified in only a little over a year since the release. How can you top that with others to come?"

"I'm not going to try to. It's not all about the numbers, it's about the meaning and the lyrical expression. I'm not complaining nor blowing it off, I'm grateful for all the success behind it. I mean that's a hard record to break, I broke Whitney's record I never in a million years thought I could say that."

"Have you talked to Whitney about it?"

"Yeah, at Bobby's album release party this early summer. Everyone from Uptown was invited and we joked around about it. Nothing serious, she's a total sweetheart and very funny.

"That's good. Do you think you'll work with her musically, anytime soon?"

"I've technically worked with her already. I wrote her duet with Bobby titled, Something In Common. But her solo stuff, I'm not sure. She's on the high of the Bodyguard right now. Maybe her next studio album." Stormi shrugged her shoulders, answering his question.

"Besides singing and songwriting, do you see yourself doing something different?"

Stormi slanted over in the couch, thinking quickly for his answer. "You know, I don't know if I can do anything else. My plate is full already and I don't wanna put too much on myself. But maybe acting in the future."

"It's been a pleasure, speaking with you. Don't forget to check out, Stormi gracefully on the front cover of Vibe magazine."

"Oh, yeah! Check that out for sure. Before we go, I just wanna shout my fans and Oakland. I love y'all. Thank you for the support and love, we've got so much more to go. This is an exclusive look on my new music video with producer Zedd.  Stormi cheesed, snapping her fingers towards the camera. Life was good, she was on top of the world.
