Chapter 9: Closer to Shawn
I had fallen asleep quickly. I was warm and comfortable in my hammock and the big blanket that I got to use since I was freezing from the challenge. What a horrible challenge it was. At least Topher was gone. He did cost us the challenge. Then, I heard a loud air horn.
"Psych! You already are on a dangerous island!" Chris yelled. "Meeting area, now!" And I woke up with such a shock, I twisted my hammock and it tipped me over out of my hammock. I fell with a scream because I was trapped between my blanket so I couldn't move and so I was falling. I closed my eyes as I got ready for the heavy impact.
That was, until I was caught. My eyes were tightly shut so I couldn't see the person that caught me. My only guess was Jasmine. When I opened my eyes, I was dead wrong as I was looking at Shawn straight into the eyes. "Uh, hello." He said. I felt my face heat up.
"Sh-Shawn!" I said with a sigh. "Thank the heavens. You saved me. . . Once again." He laughed nervously.
"Always to save the damsel," he said with a blush. I felt my face heat up and he let me down on my feet. I got out of my blankets and went over to pick over my bag that fell out of the tree. When I turned back to Shawn, I saw his face redder than a tomato.
"What is it?" I asked as I looked at him confused.
"Uh. . . N-nothing!" He said quickly and I didn't know what else to say. What's up with him?
"Guess we should go down there, then." I said.
"Yeah, yeah." His face was still red. I just grabbed my bag and put it on. Then, I wrapped my blankets around me once again as I walked slowly to the meeting area with Shawn. "Still tired?" Shawn asked.
"Like a zombie, but it's not like I am. Like I said before, they can never get through my thick skull." I said. He grinned at me as if he was in relief. We reached the area and I was still dead tired. I don't know how long I'll be able to stay awake.
"Can we go back to bed now?" Shawn asked. I tried nodding, but my head just fell on Shawn's shoulder. Hmm, comfy. I felt Shawn stiffen but then relaxed.
"The reason I called you here is because it's time to merge the teams. Consider yourself merged." Chris said. Ugh, are you freaking serious? Couldn't he wait to tell us?
"And that couldn't wait till the morning?" Jasmine asked. I completely agree.
"Hey, if you guys don't want the midnight merger meal, fine. Just go back to bed." Chris said.
"Kay, night." I muttered. I was too tired to move at the moment though. People were talking but I was too tired to listen. I just wanted to go back to my hammock and fall back asleep.
"How does a horse give a thumbs up?" Shawn asked as he was the only person I ever cared to listen to.
More talking was heard that I couldn't comprehend. Blah. Then, we were all seated and I sat beside Shawn. We were given drinks. Hmm, they were weird looking.
"Alright, everyone! Grab some chunks! Ready! Set! Enjoy!" Chris said and I gulped the substance down quickly just like that.
"Done," someone and I said at the same time. I didn't bother with caring to know who it was.
"Looks like we have two winners! Huh, never thought of that! Sugar and Ryan win the pre-challenge and has immunity! Dave! Sky! You can stop now." Chris said. There was more talking but I was too tired to care. I laid my head down on the table as there was nothing else to do. Might as well get the rest of my sleep while I can before the challenge starts.
