STOP TAKING WELLS OUT OF FICS, OR DISCLUDING HIM IN ANY WAY, BECAUSE YOU KNOW HE DIES EARLY.
A lot of fanfictions either have the OC hate Wells immediately, which is okay if the character is like Murphy and is just mad at Wells because of his father (it's not okay, Wells isn't his father, but maybe the OC is just upset or whatever), or just completely ignores him until he dies.
Wells Jaha was a great guy. Even Clarke, who believed he killed her father, was close to him because he's a generally nice dude. Wells is protective of her, sure, but I'm sure he'd be protective of any of his friends.
But literally no one gives him an opportunity to show how great he is.
Most fanfictions also have the OC be friends with Atom, because he dies early. But everyone hates Wells!
In conclusion: be friends with Wells because he is alive at some point, even if it's not for very long
