Toni's POV:

I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock blaring on my nightstand. Grumbling, I rolled over and smacked it as hard as I could until the noise ceased. Normally, I would have rolled over and let myself sleep in for an extra fifteen minutes; after all, nobody at Southside High really cared if you were late. Hell, a lot of the students didn't even show up at all. But today was different. After all, I didn't want to be late for my first day at Riverdale High.

After slipping on the closest flannel lying on the floor next to my bed and brushing my hair into a quick braid, I zipped up my serpent jacket, hopped on my motorcycle, and revved the engine. As the Riverdale High building appeared closer and closer, my nerves increased.

"Chill out, Toni," I thought to myself. "You went through Serpent initiation- you can deal with this too."

However, my nerves almost instantly disappeared when the familiar face of Sweet Pea loomed into view.

"Maybe this won't be that bad," I thought."

Little did I know how wrong I was.

"Topaz, what's up!" I heard Sweet Pea yell from across the schoolyard.

"Yo!" I shouted back, as I hopped off my motorcycle.

"So, did you hear that Ch-"

Before he could finish, we heard a loud crash nearby. We looked up to see Fangs laying on the ground about three feet away, wearing a helmet.

"Oh my gosh, Fangs!" I gasped. "Are you alright?" I sighed with relief as he stood up and brushed the dirt off his Serpent jacket.

"Yeah, I'm good- guess I just couldn't handle that ramp," he laughed.

Wait," Sweet Pea interjected. "Where IS your skateboard?"

Like a charm, a striking girl with a pale complexion and bright red hair wearing an outfit to match walked towards us.

"I presume this is yours," she quipped, shoving the now splintered skateboard into Fangs' arms. "I couldn't help but notice it flying into the beautifully trimmed bushes of our lovely school property. Here at Riverdale, horseplay is frowned upon, so keep your property- or most likely stolen goods- to yourself."

Shooting Fangs a dirty look, she flipped her fiery hair before marching away.

Angrily, I turned around to face Sweet Pea;

"Why didn't you tell me that CHERYL BLOSSOM went here!?"

*

"Toni, why do you hate the Blossom girl so much? Sweet Pea asked, "I thought you guys were friends."

"Yeah, didn't you have a crush on her or something? Fangs interjected."

I tried to lunge towards Fangs, but Sweet Pea held me back before I could do any damage, luckily for him.

"Fangs is right, Toni. Why do you care so much about this Blossom girl? You were best friends in middle school- what happened?"

"Fine," I resigned.

"Ooh, spill! Fangs gushed, leaning forwards as Fangs elbowed him in the side signaling him to stop.

"Shut up! She never opens up, don't ruin this," Sweet Pea mumbled out of the corner of his mouth, prompting Fangs to roll his eyes.

"You're right, Sweet Pea; we WERE best friends in Middle School," I spilled. "We'd hang out every day at school, and sleep over every weekend. Until one day, she just stopped talking to me entirely! She was just the only person who-" I cut off mid-sentence, wincing at the memory. "I guess I just thought we had something, and she just threw it away."

"I'm sorry, Topaz- That sucks," Sweet Pea said sympathetically.

"Yeah, but maybe you should give her a second chance," Fangs added. "She's definitely changed since Middle School, if ya know what I mean," he teased.

"Gross, Fangs. Besides, not gonna happen- I'm never giving Cheryl Blossom a second chance."

"So, Ms. Topaz, all you have left is your choice extracurricular activities, and then you may go," Mr. Weatherbee informed me. It was routine for all of the new Riverdale High students to have a consolation with the principle about scheduling.

"What are my options?"

"Let's see here... the activities that have remaining space which allow girls-"

"Allow girls?" I interrupted

"The league requires Bulldogs to remain an all boys team," Mr. Weatherbee explained.

"Sexist scum," I grumbled."

"Anyways," he glared, "The only remaining option for extracurriculars is the River Vixens."

"You mean the cheerleading squad?" I scoffed. "Yeah, I don't think that's gonna happen."

"Well then Ms. Topaz, I'm afraid you won't graduate Sophomore year- Each Riverdale High student must take part in at least one-"

"Fine," I glowered. The only thing that could have been worse than joining the cheerleading squad would be being held back a year and watching Fangs and Sweet Pea go on without me.

"Great! Now, just contact Cheryl Blossom about tryouts, and you'll be good to go."

I froze. "Cheryl- why Cheryl?"

"She's the captain of the squad- Don't worry, I'm sure you'll do great."

"Just my luck," I spat as I stormed out of the office.
