I don't know I kept repeatedly checking my inbox for the results of the cheerleading tryouts, yet my finger kept continuously smashing the reload button.
"Hey, watcha doing?" A voice asked.
Startled, I turned around to see Sweet Pea and Fangs setting their lunch trays on the table next to me.
"Nothing," I jabbed as I quickly shut off my phone.
"Well okay then," Fangs quipped, his eyes widening.
I sighed loudly at Fangs as I punched him playfully in the arm.
"So, any word from the cheerleading squad?" Sweet Pea inquired, his mouth filled with whatever strange mush the cafeteria was serving that day.
Right as he said that, I saw my phone begin to vibrate on the table.
"Speak of the devil, I muttered. As Sweet Pea and Fangs watched intently, I picked up my phone and accepted the call.
"Hi, is this Toni?" The voice on the other end interrogated.
"Present."
"Great. This is Cheryl Blossom about your River Vixen tryouts."
Even though I had assumed it was her, I found myself sitting up straighter as she said her name.
"Well, did I make the team?"
"Yes."
I flashed Sweet Pea and Fangs a thumbs up as she continued speaking.
"Coach Clayton has informed me about a last minute game tomorrow in Greendale. We need you to meet in the gym in five minutes so we can add you into the routine. Don't be late."
Before I could protest, the other line went dead.
"Well?" Fangs inquired.
"See you guys after class," I stammered as Fangs and Sweet Pea exchanged confused looks.
Grabbing my bag and my jacket, I swung my legs over the bench and began sprinting across the schoolyard.

Panting, I burst through the doors of the school gym. I was greeted by the sight of about a dozen girls standing in a circle doing warm-up exercises.
As I walked towards them, a voice behind me sneered.
"You're late."
I spun around, startled at the voice.
"Oh, hi Cheryl."
"Gather 'round, Vixens," Cheryl shouted, ignoring my greeting. All of the girls simultaneously stopped their conversations and obeyed Cheryl's words the moment they heard her voice.
"Okay, here's the reals." Cheryl announced. "We'll be bussing out at 6:00 AM tomorrow morning. If you're a moment late, the bus WILL leave without you."
On that statement, she shot me a spiteful glare, before resuming her statement.
"We will be staying in a motel a little off Centerville. Your rooming arrangements will be posted outside Weatherbee's office shortly after this meeting. That's all for today, Vixens- You may be dismissed."
As the girls filed out of the gym, I watched as Cheryl tapped two of them on the shoulders and led them away from the group. One of the girls had blonde hair tightly tied into a ponytail, and the other had straight black hair that draped down to her shoulders, and sported a chain of pearls around her neck. I observed as Cheryl whispered to the girls, causing all three of them to simultaneously glance at me. I pretended to check my phone to avoid seeming awkward and purposeless as I stood alone in the corner.
As the girls left the gym, Cheryl began parading towards me. I looked up from my phone.
"Thanks for deciding to show up," she scolded.
"Sorry, its a bit challenging to go from one end of the campus to the other on such short notice," I rebuked.
Cheryl rolled her eyes. "Anyways," she insinuated, "Since Ethel is ill, I'll send you a video of her doing her part of the routine. Try to learn it as best you can. If you mess up, which I assume you will, I'm sure I'll manage to cover for you."
"Gee, thanks Cheryl," I muttered.
"Whatever- I'll see you tomorrow."

As I left the school gym, I glanced down at my wrist to notice my watch signaling that the school day had ended about fifteen minutes ago. "Thank God,"I mumbled as I made my way across the empty campus towards my motorcycle. I let out a sigh of relief before realizing that I wasn't at Southside High anymore, so I didn't need to worry about my bike being stolen now. As I attempted to rev up my bike, it let out a depressing sputter instead of its typical satisfying sound.
"Damnit, I thought I could finally leave this place." I groaned. Considering my options, I figured that the smartest choice was to grab a screwdriver from the janitor's closet.
Turning around, I began to walk back towards the entrance, but was interrupted by the sound of someone crying.
Out of habit, I immediately jumped behind the nearest pillar. I could tell that the noise was coming from behind the school.
I knew that it was against good morality to pry, but my curiosity got the better of me. Slowly, I stuck my head out from behind the pillar, and was immediately shocked by who I saw. My mind began racing with confusion.
"What the hell is Cheryl still doing here?"
