AN:
Sorry this one's kinda short- The last one was really long, and I had to sort of do a transitional chapter. Don't worry, things heat up soon ;) Also thanks for 100 reads! Enjoy! The nervous feeling I had experienced the moment I first read the list of rooms hadn't yet ceased once I entered the bus that would take the Vixens to Greendale. As I climbed onto the bus, I continued to walk further and further towards the back until I finally found an unoccupied row. Sitting down, I peered over the top of the seat in front me.
"Where is she?" I pondered as I scanned seats for a glimpse of Cheryl's cherry-red locks.
My thoughts were quickly interrupted by the voice of a girl standing in the aisle.
"Excuse me, can I sit here?"
I turned my head to notice the dark-haired girl I had seen in the gym talking to Cheryl looking down at me.
"Oh. Um, sure," I stammered.
Without hesitation she sat down next to me, placing her gym bag above our seats. Looking closely, I noticed that it had been delicately monogrammed with the inscription "V.L."
"Veronica Lodge," She spoke, sticking out her hand for me to shake it, "And you are?"
"I'm Toni," I responded, hesitantly returning the handshake."
"Oh, so YOU'RE Toni!"
"Yeah, so..?"
Veronica clasped her hand over her mouth. "Oh, never mind," she mumbled.
I slanted my eyes in suspicion.
"Anyways," she diverted, "I saw your tryout dance- You nailed it!"
"Oh, thanks," I replied. "I didn't really want to try out, Mr. Weatherbee just made me."
"Yeah, me too," she laughed.
"Really? You kind of strike me as the cheerleading type."
"Hey! She growled playfully, sarcastically glaring at me.
"Veronica, do you know where Cheryl is?" I inquired. "You guys are friends,
right?"Looking slightly surprised at the sudden subject change, Veronica responded; "Yeah, we are, and I'm not too sure- Wait, why do you care where Cheryl is?" She rebuked quizzically.
I felt my face flush red. "Umm, no reason, just curious."
"Hmm," Veronica muttered. Through my peripheral vision, I saw her faintly smirk.
As we were about to leave, I sighed with relief as I got a quick glimpse of Cheryl climbing the stairs onto the bus. However, I got so lost in my conversation with Veronica that I didn't notice the look of sheer misery in her eyes.
We continued to talk until we reached Greendale.
*
"Hey, Toni!" I heard a voice shout as I headed through the hotel halls towards my room. It was five hours after we had gotten to Greendale, and two after the game- I was exhausted.
I turned around to see who had called my name, and was greeted by the familiar face of Veronica looking back at me.
"You did an awesome job today- I honestly wasn't sure how fast you would pick up the routine, but you did great!"
"Oh, thanks Ver-"
"I mean, even Cheryl looked impressed!" She interrupted, raising her eyebrows.
I felt my face flush red.
"Um, gotta go do....things," I sputtered awkwardly.
"Mmkay, bye Toni," Veronica laughed before turning and walking away."
As I continued down the hallway, I couldn't help but think that Veronica knew things that I didn't.
"211, 212..." I thought to myself, counting the room numbers as I searched for mine. "Ah, 213."
Standing at the door, I suddenly wished that I had taken longer while talking to Veronica. My heart raced. Slowly I attempted to insert the keycard, but my shaking hands missed the slot and caused me to drop it. As I bent down to pick it up, I noticed the lights were on in the room.
Cheryl was in there.
Taking a deep breath, I slid the card into the slot and opened the hotel room door.
