"Juliet! Are you ready yet," Gene asked as he frantically came into the apartment, plopping his briefcase down on the couch.
I sighed as I walked out of our bedroom, putting on my last earring. "Yes, Hun, I'm ready. I just need to grab my purse. Don't you need to change? Don't you even want to relax before we leave," I asked calmly, he looked frazzled.
He shook his head as he loosened his tie a bit. "No, I'm fine. Now grab your purse and lets go. Traffic is insane and our reservation is at eight. It's 7:02 now, we might not make it," he mumbled as he looked at his watch and scrunched his eyebrows.
"Okay, okay," I mumbled as I walked over to the island and grabbed my purse. "I'm ready now. We can go, so chill." My voice was cold. I followed him out to the car that was waiting for us.
He opened the door for me, and let me slide in, then slid in after me. "So, why are we going to dinner on a random Thursday night," I asked as I looked over at him with an eyebrow raised.
Gene sighed from next to me and shook his head. "We can talk about it at dinner, okay baby," he mumbled as he put a hand down on my knee and lightly squeezed it.
I nodded. "O-Okay."
A second later, his phone rang in his pocket, causing him to lift his hand from me and lean away. He let out a huff and hit answer, before he brought it up to his ear, I got a quick glance at who it was— Jeremy Tanderson, his best friend and right hand man at work.
"Hey, Jeremy, is it all worked out," he instantly asked, quite quickly if I say so myself.
Jeremy's deep voice sounded like mumbles on the other end of the line. Gene nodded and rolled his eyes, clearly not liking what was said, "Okay. Then fix it. It needs to be done by Sunday at Noon."
I sighed and leaned back in the chair, crossing my arms. Of course he's working again— when is he not working?
A few minutes later, he finally hung up and turned his attention back to me. "I'm sorry, Juliet. I wasn't supposed to be working tonight," he mumbled and shook his head.
I sighed and shrugged. "I-It's okay. Where are we going," I asked after a second.
He let out a sigh and shrugged. "You'll find out where in a little bit," he mumbled as his hand found my knee again. His arm came up and was draped around my shoulder, pulling me into him.
"What's been driving you so crazy at work," I finally asked, about ten minutes later.
He let out a sigh, then his blue eyes looked down at me. "We're trying to partner with a company in New York City, and the lawyers with their contracts have been wanting to negotiate, so we have to plan everything accordingly. It's just been crazy. They also want to break ground on a new building, so... I-I yeah. It's been crazy."
I nodded. "Yeah That sounds crazy. At work, they've been trying to work on a stronger joint venture with the Red Sox, which I don't really think they need. But, if they really think it could bring in more money, then I guess they should do it."
He sighed. "Sometimes, businesses do what they have to do," he challenged after a second.
I rolled my eyes and shook my head. "You don't think I know what," I asked. "I mean I did minor in business. I know a thing or two."
He only rolled his eyes in return.
We made it to the restaurant with about two minutes and 22 seconds to spare, not that Gene was counting. But, it happened that it was the very restaurant that Gene and I had our first date at, all those years ago.
There was a large smile on his face as we made our ways into the dining area. We both sat down, and I looked at him with a big smile. "I wasn't expecting this, Gene," I said as I looked down at my menu.
"I know you weren't. I know you love the food here, though," he replied as he looked through the menu himself. "Shall I get us the finest wine they have?"
I giggle and shook my head. "Gene Hun, there's no need. You don't need to recreate our first date," I chuckled, "you've already won me over."
A cocky smile was now present on his face. "I have, haven't I? I'm glad that I have," he said as he put his menu down.
I tucked my hair behind my ear and then looked past him, blushing a bit. My heart nearly stopped. Behind Gene, at another table, Danny was sitting with a few teammates, looking directly at me.
I quickly put my focus on Gene and saw his eyebrows scrunch. "What are you looking at," he asked as he whipped his head around to see where I was looking, Danny quickly looked away, and began laughing at what one of the guys said.
"Some of the Patriots are back there. Danny Amendola is in the group, remember when I did an interview with him," I asked as I raised an eyebrow.
Gene let out a huff but nodded. "How can I forget? You said he literally requested to have his interview with you," he grumbled. "He was like all smiles the entire time you were interviewing him."
I rolled my eyes. "He's just a good guy, Gene. I'm surprised he even remembers me," I lied as I glanced back at him. His beautiful brown eyes were staring back at me.
His intense stare shot electric rushes straight through my loins. My heart began to race. I looked away and back to Gene, who was suddenly looking down at his phone.
I rolled my eyes.
I reached over and grabbed his hand in mine. "So why'd you want to go to dinner tonight," I asked, raising an eyebrow.
His eyebrows raised and his jaw dropped a little. "Oh! Right," He flipped through a few things on his phone and then turned it to me.
It was a real estate website that was up, with beautiful pictures of an apartment. I grabbed his phone and began to scroll through it. It looked absolutely beautiful.
"This place looks amazing, what about it," I asked as I looked up at him and handed him his phone back.
A smiles found its way onto his face. "That's our new apartment in New York," he exclaimed. "We move out two weeks from tomorrow."
My jaw dropped. "You think I'm willing to move to New York City?"
