"Mamma." Echoed through the transfiguration classroom. "Yes darling." The old woman said still staring at her paperwork, the transfiguration professor was pointedly focusing on all of the words that she had to read and confirm by signing. "How is it going?" A kind voice asked snapping her from her focused and yet exhausted mind and thought track. "As well as is expected." She replied in a droll voice, she was sad but life was always sad so people like her had to cope with it. After all she and her baby were lucky, they weren't in the same predicament as Harry Potter. "How is the girl?" This same voice asked and Minerva sighed. "Fine." Her voice was tired and worn with her tone sharp and to the point. "She doesn't look too fine from where I am stood Minerva." Dumbledore replied with a light cheerful tone as always. At this Minerva looked up to her daughter. She could hear a child but couldn't see her at all. No ginger locks, green pleading eyes or pale freckled skin. "What?" She shouted standing up knocking her chair over in the rapid response. "Mamma." The voice came again a little softer and quieter than usual and Minerva looked in that direction. She walked to the area that the voice had emerged from and looked around, still nothing but came the quaint voice again "Mamma." She sounded scared and nervous. Minerva heard the small girl again and looked exactly at where it was coming from 'how is Albus so calm?' She pondered but looked still for the girl till it clicked. Both adults started laughing extremely loudly as it dawned on Minerva that the girl had trapped herself in a cupboard.

Walking over to where her daughter dwelt with tears of laughter in her eyes she opened the door and extracted her daughter. The little girl hugged around the woman's neck for a second. "Mamma." She shouted and smiled. "What am I going to do with you?" She laughed a little longer then placed the child down again. Dumbledore had that gleam in his eyes like always and left the two females to have some time together. "More." Came a dainty voice from below. Noticing the time Minerva complied. "Always with the food." Her light Scottish voice announced to no one in particular.

The two walked slowly to the great hall hand in hand. They entered the space to be greeted by the whole teaching faculty. The two sat at one of the centre tables along with everyone else. "Hello." They all greeted kindly. Last to walk in was Dumbledore and Snape. "Dada." The child shouted and smiled. All of the professors looked fearfully at Minerva only to be shown a small happy smile. "Quite the impression you have made there dear Severus." Came a voice and he merely nodded. The dinner passed with joyful expressions and happy exchanges. The entire meal however not once did Minerva lose sight of her daughter. She had lost her for long enough.

The clock quickly reached half five and Minerva took the child to get her ready for bed. Pyjamas were placed on the infant and her teeth were brushed. The night passed and both parties slept till half six when a child jumped on her mother. "Fine. I am coming. Why can you not just wake me kindly?" The old woman snapped dangerously angrily and Annabella climbed off her mother and started crying as she ran through the chambers and away. As it turned out no doors had been closed behind the transfiguration professor and once she had figured this out she ran to find her.

The little girl had made it down a flight of stairs on her belly. Soft sobs left the baby. "Stupid woman. You know she can't handle it." She stressed and ran down those steps. Once she got down she realised the sobbing had stopped and so had all of the sounds of the girl ever existing. The old woman searched diligently for the young girl for half and hour when she heard double breathing coming from around her. There the child sat on her bum with her legs either side of her and a tear streaked face along with bogeys hanging from the rounded nose. "Come here darling." She soothed and picked the baby up. Quickly the baby wrapped her arms around her mum and rested her head. They headed to breakfast at once and after Minerva dressed both of them and brushed their teeth. The day passed smoothly with the child being cared for by Minerva.

The weeks leading up to the start of school were uneventful and Mcgonagall was back to her usual self. The first day started like usual and of course Minerva greeted the first years their faces just as scared as the last year she had done. At the table Annabella was already sat. A small highchair was placed between professor Hooch and where Minerva was going to sit. The child watched and only occasionally grunted asking for more juice which Professor Hooch provided.

As the sorting ceremony was carried out Minerva suddenly felt impatient to know what house her daughter was going to be in. 'Only time would tell.' She thought to herself hopelessly as brave gryfindor students were placed and pride filled the professor. Students all sat questioning why there was a child sat at the table but only a few murmurs met the professors ears. All of these were hushed when Dumbledore rose to his feet. The usual speech was made and he introduced yet another Defence teacher as well as the young child sat playing with Madam Hooch's fingers. "Annabella." He said and the young girl squealed in response and excitement. A few laughs sounded out but fell silent again as food appeared. The child filled herself on any food she could reach and her mother deemed cool enough for her to eat.

At the end of the meal the new defence teacher approached Mcgonagall and began speaking "so how come you are allowed to raise the child here then?" He questioned and a sort sharp response silenced him "because dead men don't make decent dads." A nod was sent as an agreement and he walked away. Huffing the professor left to ready the child for bed. "Say that five times fast." A Gryffindor was heard saying to his friend next to him.

This was the way their lives would be from now on. No more daddy just mummy and baby. Minerva felt sorrow for the girl who would have no father. "Well I can do anything he could. I already was for goodness sake." She muttered as she fell asleep cradling the baby in bed. There she dreamt of her husband, her old fiancé and her baby. All of the things she cared about, each meaning a little more than the last. Her rich ginger hair that only brightened as she aged.
