"I have to do this ...... uuuuh but how?", Linley was definitely in a deep dilemma, he looked at the mountain once again,"It's a tough climb". Linley either could wait to collect enough magic to heal his skinned knees and arms and then continue to climb, or he could store magic and consume it all at once to create a huge blast of wind under him to get a head start. He sat down cross-legged holding his sword tight, "So, you are my most faithful companion". "Think Linley, Think uhh....".
He sat there for like thirty minutes until he came up with a plan that seemed much better than those he had thought of earlier. He thought that he would use Earth style magic and create small hedges on the steep surface of the mountain while he would constantly use weak wind magic to cover his wounds in order to prevent them brushing and getting any worse. "This could work!", said Linley excited.
This was a better plan and he could definitely pull this off using only a bit of magic, this was because the spells he decided to use were small spells that used minimal amounts of magic. "Ok, here goes". Linley looked down the rock he had climbed upon to rest earlier, it was a long way down."Well, definitely not the best way to die", thought Linley. Then he brought forth his arm and started casting the spells.
First, he started with the wind spell. It was quite tricky as it required good control of the wind element, it took a while but finally, he was successful. When the spells were complete he looked at them, it looked as if someone had tied pieces of clear white clouds around his wounds, it felt fluffy and his wounds were definitely not rubbing now, satisfied with that he went ahead.
Then came the tough part now he had to constantly use earth magic to pull out hedges form the sides and run on them before the magic terminated and the hedge slowly disintegrated ."Let's Go! ", shouted Linley, he was absolutely horrified yet he was smiling. Even though he was exhausted to the core, even though his heart beat at a terrific fast pace he smiled because he enjoyed it, he was having fun, the most fun he had ever had. Without any more frustration, he created the first hedge then the second and then he ran in the endless paradox of hedges and jumps.
"Just a little more", said Linley as he looked up, he was nearly at the top he was panting hard, his bruised legs had nearly given up, although his wind spell supported him well his legs still hurt, he was firm in mind yet weak in body.
He ran-ran and ran, his eyes filled with tears as his feet hurt, his heart pumping, his breaths short and fast and finally he made it."I did it" said Linley with a filled throat, he was exhausted, his body hurt but still he stood up and looked at the beautiful sight in front of him. He saw the dark canopy of trees spreading as far he could see, the forest was huge yet the sight of the sun's rays falling on them made it look pretty.
He stood there for a while then shouted as hard as he could" I did it!"." Yes, you have indeed done a good job boy", the thick, harsh voice was easily recognizable it was Maud, Linley turned around but was stunned as he saw something horrific.
Maud did stand there but what shocked or rather scared him was a huge black wolf that stood right next to Maud. "Teacher wha... How..?". Linley was scared he was frozen at the place he stood. He did not know what to do, all he did was stare into the eyes of the great black beast, the eyes were golden yellow and shone bright, they were deep and it seemed as if they were piercing through him seeing deep inside him, inspecting every detail of him.
Maud laughed and said," You did well against the Gravlers let's see how well you do against my spirit animal, The Dark wolf". Linley was shocked as it is but now he was told to fight such a beast, it was not as scary as those creatures but in the state, he was in it was nearly impossible to move let alone fighting.
"But teac....", he had barely spoken when Maud shouted, "Get him!". Linley saw as the wolf pounced on him, he jumped away to the left barely keeping himself from falling off the edge.
He knew it was totally futile to run, he knew he had to fight, he had no other choice.
Linley looked at the wolf and smiled, The wolf twirled its ear and looked at him with surprise, even Maud seemed interested in that awkward reaction."Let's go then ", said Linley as he drew his sword and took a stance.
The wolf growled at him it's ferocious teeth clearly visible, all long and deadly ready to rip Linley to pieces, Its claws shining as if they were made of metal. Linley stood there without a plan, tired, hurt but not ready to give up. Maud had definitely gone too far.
Both the wolf and Linley stared at each other neither of them budged but both waited patiently to find an opening to attack. Then suddenly the wolf swung its paw armed with razor-sharp claws at Linley he ducked and tried to stab the wolf but to his surprise, it was really swift to get back at once when it knew it had missed.
He knew this was going to be tough but he was determined. He jumped up and used an earth spell to carry some stones up with him when he was at a good altitude he quickly used a powerful gust of wind to break the stones and send the shards at the wolf, he thought that there was no way for it to evade that , but to his surprise the wolf looked at the shards and howled loudly sending a huge wall of wind that not only stopped the shards but also sent then soaring back towards Linley .
It was tough but he barely managed to evade them by the skin of his teeth. Linley was shocked, "How is this possible! ", said Linley when suddenly he heard a grim laugh coming from Maud as he said, "Did you forget so fast, my wolf is a spirit animal it can use magic, it's not your average wolf you dummy."
Linley stood there shocked his feet trembled, the wound on his knee had opened and bled, "So this is a spirit animal". He said as he looked at the wolf, it stood there with it's back arched ready to attack he knew this was going to be a really harsh fight, he also knew he had to end this fast as he had to make it in time for the entrance examination.
He exchanged a few blows with the wolf all of them useless as they did not even scratch the wolf but rather they ended up tiring Linley further. He knew he could not fight much longer, he was tired he had not slept for a day and had constantly worked hard. He finally decided that he was going to risk it all, he thought of a plan as he examined the wolf carefully, he knew a bit about wolves but he also knew that this one was different, taking all these facts into consideration he thought that he was going to force the wolf to the edge and then use a spell to push it off. The wolf was big and sturdy thus it would use all his leftover magic to push it over. He knew it was risky, too risky to be honest but that was the sanest thought he could think of at the moment.
He went to the execution of his plan, he knew that the wolf was smart so he had to trick it, he fought it, swinging his sword at him. Slashing at it using all the strength he had until he finally cornered it, when he was sure the wolf was trapped he used Earth and fire magic together to summon a spewing hot fountain of lava from the ground, the wolf was a bit shocked it tried to run away but Linley then used wind magic to push the lava onto the wolf.
The wolf knew it could not escape it howled yet again, sending a much larger force of wind at it, it seemed to work but then Linley smiled and said "Gotcha", Maud curiously looked at Linley the smile on his face, his stubborn mind, and his risky move, "He's Kraven's son after all". Linley laughed and then shouted "Come forth and become the shield that protects all, Earth Erupt", as he said this he placed his hands on the ground and suddenly the ground under the wolf trembled and a huge rock emerged from the ground pushing the wolf off.
The wolf howled and barked as it fell but then the sounds subsided and Linley knew he had won.
"Farewell Dark Wolf, You Fought well", Linley collapsed on the ground as he said these words and the last thing he saw was Maud coming over to hold him and say "Such a reckless Idiot you are".
