After Alexa dropped me off yesterday, I made my way into the house. Thankful that I had made it on time, unlike the day before.
Mom screamed at me, saying it was my fault, how everything was my fault. She threw that day's wine bottle at me and I earned a few bruises and a deep cut near my wrist. Nothing I hadn't felt before.
Dinner was quiet, I ate and went to my room. Feet slowly trudding my body up the stairs, I sank to floor with my back resting against my bed. My head hung into the hands, which propped against my bent knees. I didn't cry, just sat there with no will to live. Wishing my mother would leave me alone.
That night, I fell alseep in that position, with unknown, nightmare induced, tears dripping onto my cheeks while I slept.
My eyes slowly cracked open, eyelashes dried to my cheeks from crying during my sleep. I scratched at them, stretching and pulling myself up. Expression dead, I pulled out today's outfit and drudged down the steps, camera in bag and bag on shoulder.
I was too drowsy to even grab a breakfast bar on my way out so I snatched my keys and left. Before realising there were no keys to grab.
"Shoot!" I whispered, my realisation dawning across my face. My car was at the school. Alexa drove me home yesterday.
"Dang it!" I whispered once again as I pulled my phone out to call Alexa.
Crossing my fingers she would pick up, I closed the door behind me and waited in the garage, figuring out it was raining. Great. Just great! Please pick up your phone Alexa!
I thanked my Lord when she picked up.
"Hel-"
"Alexa! Thank you, I need a ride. Like, right now, to school. I am waiting and just figured out that it is raining and I left my car at school yesterday. So, please?" I rambled out, hoping she got the point of the call. She sighed on the other side of the line, "Fine. I will be there in 5. You owe me! I was almost to school and your house is the opposite way honey! By the way, is your mom home? I don't want to cause any problems."
I smiled, glad that she was complying. "No, I haven't heard or seen her this morning. Her car isn't here anyway. So I think you are good."
"Got it. See you." Alexa replied, probably turning her car around.
"Thanks, bye." I hung up and stood in the garage, waiting for her to honk her car outside.
When we got to school, Alexa and I parted ways. Our classes were on other ends of the hallway and we didn't have any of the same classes.
I could tell she had noticed the newly forming bruise and the deep red cut on my arm, but I just shook my head when she was about to announce her concern. I wasn't ready to tell her about how my mother had hurt me again. Even though she already had some clue as to what was going on at home. She didn't know the whole story and thought it was just once in a while.
If she ever told anyone, making me being taken away from this town, my only living relative and my whole life here. I don't think I could forgive her for a long time.
Anyway, school was boring up until he showed up. So telling her would just lead to me never finding out who this guy was.
My eyes trained themselves upon my notes, ears focused on taking in every word Mr. Sanif, the A.P English teacher, said. Looking up only when needed. His talking slowed and the door creaked open. Only to reveal a very tired and aggravated Cole Darrens. His eyes were droopy, light shade of purple hanging beneath each eye, and his dark brown hair was sticking out in every direction.
