You crash into Rhoe as you run down the hall. You land on the floor, sprawled out with him on top of you. You look up in fear as he grabs your shoulders, relaxing a little when you realize it's just him. Alarms sound all around you, and your heart pounds rapidly.

"Jesus, you frightened me." You breathe.

One of Rhoe's hands reaches out and cups your face. His thumb gently swipes your cheekbone. It's red when he pulls back. "What happened?" Rhoe scans your face, his concerned eyes searching yours. You can feel his breath soft on your cheek.

"I met her," You whisper.

Rhoe's eyes widen. "Did you-"

"No," You shake your head slightly. "I couldn't bring myself to kill her."

Rhoe lets out a long breath before pressing his forehead against your shoulder. His arms tighten around you and he murmurs, "That was a foolish thing to do. You should have ended her."

"Would you have killed yourself if you were in the same situation as me?" You ask softly.

Rhoe doesn't reply and pulls back. His nose is centimeters from yours. His blue eyes are thoughtful.

"No," He says after a moment. "No, I wouldn't have."

"Exactly," You wriggle out of his grasp and stand up shakily. You pull him to his feet, his hand warm in yours. "We're going to have to give up on taking this ship."

"You think?"

There's the sound of footsteps and Rhoe grabs you suddenly and presses you up against the corner of a wall. Galran soldiers parade past the end of the hallway. You can feel Rhoe's heart under your hand and his body trembles a little.

"All clear," He steps back, and wipes his brow with his arm.

"We need to get the hell out of here," You take off down the hall, glancing around periodically to make sure no soldiers are about.

"What about disabling the ship?" Rhoe asks breathlessly.

"I took care of it during my fight with Red," You pause and shrink against the wall as a loud scream echoes around the ship. There's the sound of things being blown up and torn apart.

"W-what is that?" Rhoe gulps.

"That," You stick your head out and look both ways before going across the hall. "-would be me. I may have cut her arm off."

"You cut your own arm off?!" Rhoe hisses. "No wonder she's pissed. She sounds like she's out for your head."

"Yeah, she probably is." You shrug. "Nothing new."

"Gah," Rhoe shakes his head. "You really should have killed her."

"Yeah, I really should have," You agree, brushing a piece of hair out of your face. "Where'd you park the ship?"

"I landed not far from where I dropped you off," Rhoe takes your hand and pulls you after him. "It's this way."

You let him tug you along, slipping into thought as you do so. Poor Red. She was so...messed up. Even more than usual. You couldn't bring yourself to tell Rhoe that the reason you hadn't killed her was because you'd hoped there was still some good in her. She had contemplated taking your hand after all, hadn't she?
