If you're not struggling back or the darkness surrounding you doesn't scare you anymore, does that mean you've given up?
Because that's how Jennie felt right now, and she didn't like it, but she didn't know much to go on to help herself. When she regained consciousness, there was a bag on her head that smelled like sweat and blood. The motion she felt told her that she was in a truck and being driven somewhere. When she opened her mouth to yell out, a sound barely above a whisper croaked out of her dehydrated throat.
The kidnapped girl knew she was absolutely useless right now, so she fought the urge to think about her claustrophobic surroundings and forced herself to sleep again. She figured she'd wait until something strikes within her to fight back, but for right now, she wanted to ignore the shifter world she had entered.
She had been unconscious the whole car ride, from her own sleepiness or whatever drug her kidnappers gave her, she didn't know. They didn't even give her a chance to wake up fully before they hauled her cage and carelessly lugged it into a basement of a big warehouse in the middle of nowhere.
"Hey, ladies! We bought you one more friend here!"
The sight before Jennie caused her eyes to widen awake with pure alarm and horror. There were about a dozen other girls in bigger cages but in much worse condition than her. The basement was eerily quiet with their dead eyes looking at the newcomer with hopelessness. They all had plain white dresses that were more like dirty bed sheets. Scratches and bruises of various sizes and extremity decorated the fragile women's bodies.
The men dropped Jennie's cage with an unceremonious thud. One of them patted his jeans pocket, "Oh, it seems I've left the key somewhere." He bent down to look at Jennie with a "sorry" face. "My apologies, sweetheart, but you're gonna have to endure the tight space for a while longer." He turned his head to look at the other girls with a smirk, "Unless one of you could help her by changing."
Jennie was confused why the man sounded like he was tempting the girls. But she was met by silence, some even turning their backs on her.
"Aw come on, ladies. Eventually we'll figure out what you are so don't make it harder than it has to." Shaking his head amusingly, he and his partner went up the stairs to leave the basement. "We're heading out on our new adventure in an hour, ladies! Prepare yourselves... mentally that is." With a cackle, they slammed the door shut.
Jennie's eyes scanned around the room, trying to find hope in one of these girls' eyes. "Please...one of you could help me out, right?"
"Listen up, girl," someone's hard voice sneered, in contrast with Jennie's soft voice. "If one of us was able to get out, we would've done so already. Unfortunately, none of us so far have the animal capable of getting out these goddamn cages!" She viciously shook the bars of her cage that were only an inch apart, emphasizing her words. Whether the anger and frustration in her voice was directed towards the others or herself, Jennie was too scared to find out.
The older girl with her piercing dark, almost black eyes glared at the other girls in all directions, "And as for the others that haven't revealed themselves yet...they're probably able to get us all out if they weren't cowards!"
"Bitch, shut the fuck up already!"
Jennie flinched at the louder, higher pitched voice of a girl about her age, maybe younger. Although her face was grimy as the others, one could tell that she had porcelain skin like a doll and would glow if her face was cleaned up. She looked so young and innocent yet after hearing her snap and her challenging glare at the older girl, Jennie couldn't help but worry if there was bad rivalry between the captives.
