Every single chapter I publish will have a song linked to it. I recommend to listen to them, but I can't force you. The songs give the book a bit more life. Enjoy!

With her hands full of paper, Emberson casually walks down the hallway towards the Principals office with a small skip to her step. Her long black hair was down and she wore a shirt that looked a bit too big for her tiny frame. But she wore a smile on her face. Her smile brighten as a tall man with short black hair walked by - Takashi Shirogane, the best pilot at the Garrison. He nodded back with a small smile of his own as they continued on their way.

Turning the last corner, Ember can see one boy sitting in a chair outside of the office. He had black hair - with a rad looking mullet - and what looked like black eyes that were downcast. He had bruises and cuts all over him - leading Ember to believe that he got in a fight. Her finger tapped the papers as she continued down the hall before stopping by the door.

It seemed like the young boy noticed her as well, he shifted a bit in his chair before keeping still. Seeing as it was going to be a while before Ember got to see the principal - she turned towards the boy with a smile.

"Hello!" She exclaimed, leaning up against the wall so she wasn't putting all her weight on her foot. "How are you?"

The boy eyed her warily, looking around them before looking the girl in the eye. Em noticed instantly that his eyes weren't a black color like she thought. It was a deep and dark purple, making her want to switch her favorite colors from yellow to that shade of purple. "Do I know you?"

"Nope, but it's always nice to ask someone how they are." Ember stated, shifting the papers to the ground. She dusted her hands against her shorts before sticking an arm out. "Emberson Jalus, but you can call me Ember." The boy took her hand and gave it a firm shake.

"Keith Kogane. . .You look familiar, are you sure I haven't seen you anywhere before?"

"Well, Keith Kogane, we are in the same class. I would hope you would remember that much."

His cheeks flushed a light pink as he turned away. "I can't go around putting names to every face I see!"

    "Just the important ones?"

    "Just about."

Ember grinned, picking up the papers as the door opened to the Principals office. A boy with a blond buzz cut walked out - glaring heatedly at Keith as he walked over to a seat. He had even more cuts and bruises then Keith did. So this is who he fought.

"It was nice meeting you Keith, maybe we can hang out more?" She looked at Keith hopefully, who nodded slowly as if he really didn't want too.

     "Sure. . .I don't see why not."

"Good!" She cheered, about to walk into the office. But Em stopped, looking at Keith with the same grin on her face. But it looked more sly then anything. "By the way, that was a nice punch you gave buzz-cut over there."

And that was how Keith Kogane met the one and only Emberson Jalus.

The next time they met - it wasn't actually planned. It was completely by coincidence.  A night like no other - or, maybe, just another night. But with someone there. Emberson stared up at the night sky - taking in the sparkling diamonds  they called stars. A few of them streamed by - becoming shooting stars - but all of them were twinkling. Flashing.

  Absolutely beautiful.

  But already dead.

The sound of a door being slid open made her tense and whirl around - thinking it was a teacher that would give her detention for being out late. But a certain mullet-hair boy made her relax, an easy-going smile on her face.

"Kogane. Haven't seen you since. . .last week?"

"Emberson? I mean Jalus - yeah. Sounds about right."

"Just call me Ember, or Em. Either or, just not my last name. What punishment did the horrible principal give you?" She giggled lightly.

"Ahh, it was just cleaning duty for the next two weeks." Keith looked slightly uncomfortable, shifting towards the door. "Um, I'm going to go head inside - since you seem to be enjoying yourself-"

"Ridiculous!" Ember gestured him to come closer. "There is plenty of room up here for the both of us. Besides, the sky looks beautiful tonight."

Keith hesitated, not knowing what to do, before slowly making his way towards Ember. He sat stiffly beside the black-hair girl, but Ember just sent him a smile and looked back up at the stars. The two of them sat in silence, watching the night sky, and slowly Keith started to relax.

"What are you planning on studying for?" Ember asked in a soft voice.

"What?" Keith looked over to the girl with furrowed eyebrows.

"What do you want to be?" Ember shrugged. "I want to be an explorer! Wouldn't it be cool to explore the galaxy! Even just to explore Earth itself would be awesome. . ." She trailed off, looking up at the sky in wonderment. Keith felt his lips curl up into a half-smile as he looked back up at the stars.

"I. . .I want to be a pilot. A fighter pilot, exploration pilot - just something that gets me off the ground." He winced lightly, thinking he said too much as Ember looked back at him.

"That sounds amazing. You're a pretty good pilot from what I can see, with those simulators. If I had to trust anyone to fly me anywhere - I think I'd trust you."

Keith avoided her gaze, looking back up at the stars. Ember stared at him for a minute before looking back up as well. "I'm sorry. Sometimes my mouth works faster than my brain." She apologized.

"Actually," Keith started out slowly, turning to look at Ember. "I. . .If I had  to choose someone from my class to take off into space with - I wouldn't mind it being you. You're not as annoying as Lance is."

"Thanks, Kogane." Ember sent him another smile - just as a shooting star caught her attention.  "Quick! Make a wish!"

"A wish?" Keith echoed in confusion as Ember closed her eyes. "Why?"

"When you see a shooting star, you're suppose to make a wish! It makes the chances of the wish coming true bigger!" Ember explained. "Quick! Make a wish!"

The two of them bowed their heads, thinking of a quick wish in there head. Keith opened his eyes, still confused. "Do. . .Do we say the wish out loud?"

"'Course not, Kogane! If you say your wish out loud, it'll never come true!" Ember looked back up at the sky. "You know, Kogane, I knew you weren't like the rumors, but I didn't expect you to be this cool."

Keith chuckled to himself, not knowing if he should be offended or not. When Ember sent him a silly grin, he decided it was just a joke.

"Keith," The said boy spoke. "You can call me Keith, not Kogane."
