The same day:

Tyler's POV

Jason is holding Kenny's hand.

He doesn't seem to notice my presence in her room, so I had to make him realize that I was here.

I coughed quite audibly in order to be noticed.

No movement.

Was he asleep?

Also, why is the lighting so bloody dim in here?

I walk up closer to Jason as slowly as I can and wait for any movement.

When there wasn't any, I lightly patted him on his shoulder, "Jason?"

His slightly bent head suddenly jolts up in alertness as he turns around and sees me.

He immediately lets go of Kenny's hand, and the color in his face drains.

"Hey Tyler," he says, completely surprised by my appearance.

"Yeah, what are you doing here, man? Aren't you supposed to be with Hernan?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh yeah, actually, well, his son, Fabian, is here to spend the night with him. So I don't have to be there. I'm off duty," he says.

"Yeah, so you didn't want to go home and get some rest from your hectic schedule?" I ask with a hint of sarcasm.

"Yeah, I was on my way home, but I thought of visiting Kenny since I hadn't seen her in ages," he says.

"Oh, okay," I reply, not convinced by his answer.

What he asked me next surprised me.

"And why are you here?" he asks with new-found confidence.

Like, bro, who the fuck are you to ask me?

"Well, I'm here to check on my girlfriend and my patient," I say, walking closer to Kenny so that I am closer to her than Jason is.

"Oh, now?" he asks, looking at the clock on the wall behind me.

"Yes, I can check on her at any time I want to because she's not just my patient but my girlfriend too," I say.

He shrugs his shoulders in response.

"By the way, where are Erin and Danica?" I ask, looking around.

"Oh, Ben's trying to help share Erin's grief, and Danica was talking to someone on her phone. That's why they let me be her until one of them is back," he says sincerely.

Or so I thought.

"Okay, well, I'm here now. I'll take it from here," I say, flicking my eyes onto Kenny, who lies there motionless.

"Yeah, okay. Good night," he says awkwardly.

"Yeah, have a good night too," I reply.

He turns around and looks at Kenny and says, "Good night, beautiful girl. I'll be back soon," walking past me.

Okay, so this man just called my girlfriend a beautiful girl in front of me and walked past me like nothing. Wow.

He shut the door on his way out, and I was glad he did so.

I'd finally have some time alone with Kenny.

After all that happened in the past few hours, I had to spend some time with her. I had to be close to her.

I sat on her bed, held her hands in mine, and brought them close to my face.

Her cold hands lacked the warmth I felt when I held them in mine.

I brought them closer to my face until my lips touched the back of her hands. I pressed a sloppy kiss on both of her hands.

Next, I kissed her cold lips.

How I wish she would return the kiss, now more than ever.

After the past hours, which were so disastrous, I needed nothing but to be held by Kenny, to be kissed by her, and to be comforted by her.

Yes, guys need to be held too.

It's unfortunate Kenny couldn't hold me right now, when I needed her the most. But I'm pretty sure she'll be there for me in the near future.

I am going to do anything it takes to bring her back. I'll research as much as I can about finding the right cure. I'll consult as many doctors for better opinions. I'm desperate for her to recover.

Entwining our hands like we always did, I kiss the back of her hand as a lone tear rushes down my face.

I held onto her hands as if I'd lose my life if I let go.

The last thing I remember was laying my head next to Kenny's as I wrapped an arm around her before falling asleep with her on her tiny bed.

Erin's POV

After spending a whole hour with Ben, I did feel slightly better. He was the next person I trusted blindly after Kenny. And Danica too. Also, maybe Tyler.

He tries to soothe me with his words, telling me Kenny will be okay.

It was nearing one in the morning when I realized it was pretty late and Ben should be home by now, as should Jason, who was with Kenny.

I bid Ben adieu and walked back to Kenny's hospital room, slowly swinging the door open.

I saw a sleeping figure on Kenny's bed whose right arm was wrapped around Kenny's belly, clutching her close to the unknown figure.

This surely wasn't Jason.

I quickened my pace as I walked towards the figure and was relieved to see Tyler.

As I looked closely, I saw dry tracks of tears on his face.

It must be tough for him too.

The way he held Kenny said it all, clutching her close to him even in this condition.

Just then, there was a soft knock on the door, and Danica emerged from behind it.

I put a hand over my lips, silencing her, and pointed at a sleeping Tyler.

Danica can be pretty noisy at times.

She nods and tipstoes towards me while glancing at Kenny and Tyler.

"Look at them. They're inseparable," she whispers.

"Yes," I reply slowly. "It must be so tough for Tyler too."

"Isn't that what love is all about? Staying by each other's side through tough times?" she says, deep in thought.

"Yes," I pondered on what she just said.

"I wish my husband did the same," Danica mumbles. "I mean, stupid ex-husband," she says, laughing it off.

I turn around and get ready for bed.

Whatever was ahead of us, I had the utmost faith in Tyler.

I had faith in him as a doctor who would treat his patient well. And as a boyfriend, who would stick by his girlfriend through this rough patch.
