The next day:

Tyler's POV

Fourteen hours had passed since we sedated Kenny, and she hadn't gained consciousness as yet.

As the day began, I kept checking on Kenny every hour. I just had to go up to her room, even though Danica and Josh were monitoring her.

I'm in my cabin, talking to the youngest patient, Violet, who is just five years old.

She was sitting with her mother in my cabin, and I couldn't help but think of how they resembled Kenny and Erin.

Dr. Wesley, one of the country's most famous and highly specialized pediatric oncologist, stood behind them.

He clears his throat abruptly and draws me out of my thoughts.

He was an old man who was forever impatient, always rushing into things.

"Yeah, so her results are clear. She's good as of now, but she's got to come and get herself checked up after two weeks," Dr. Wesley says to me.

"Oh wow! That's good!" I smile brightly at little Violet, who beams back at me.

She was such a sport.

Her leukemia was in its initial stages. So it was easily cured with just two chemotherapies. She thankfully hadn't developed any infections, and her body reacted pretty well to the treatments.

"Thank you, Dr. Wesley and Dr. Hart. I can never thank you both enough," Holly, Violet's mother, says with teary eyes.

"You're welcome, Mrs. Becker. This is our job; this is what we do: cure patients," I say, looking at little Violet.

"Yeah, I'll see you next week. Now, please excuse me. I need to attend to another patient," Dr. Wesley says as he excuses himself from my cabin.

Such a cold man.

"So, that's it. Come back after two weeks for a checkup, and we'll see how well she's doing," I tell Mrs. Becker.

Shania, Violet's nurse, knocks on my door and walks in with the dues and patient documents.

Once Mrs. Becker signs the documents, she stands up to exit.

Little Violet makes her way towards me and gives me a hug, wrapping her tiny hands around my torso.

"Thank you, Dr. Tyler," she says in her baby voice as she pulls away.

I couldn't help but hug her again.

"I'll see you soon, little one," I say, kissing her cheek.

Her mother smiles as Shania leads her out, with little Violet skipping behind them.

Just as Violet exits, Danica enters my cabin.

"Tyler. You need to come right now," she says with a hint of urgency.

"What?" I almost lunged.

"Kenna. I guess she's going to be conscious soon," she says as we're speed walking towards Kenny's room.

I swung the door open to see Erin standing close to Kenny's bed.

I rushed to her side.

Kenny smiles at Erin, who's whispering something we can't hear.

"Goodness, Kenny, are you okay?" I say as our eyes meet.

"Tyler?" she says my name just like the first time, and I couldn't help but think of how much I missed hearing her say my name like that.

"Yeah, I still feel dizzy, but yeah, I'm okay," she says weakly.

"Oh, my Kenny is alright. Praise the heavens!" Danica exclaims dramatically and pushes past Erin and me.

"Um, who are you?" Kenny asks, looking at Danica quizzically.

"Good Lord. You don't know me? Me? Your greatest companion and caretaker?" Danica says this dramatically, placing her hand on her chest.

"You're my Dani," Kenny says, and we all laugh.

.

.

.

The rest of the day was pretty fine. I didn't have much to do today, so I went to Kenny's room earlier than I always do.

Erin and Danica exit the room after a few minutes, leaving Kenny and me alone.

As soon as they leave, Kenny extends her arms, inviting me for a hug.

I embrace her tightly and pull her close to me.

The joy I felt when she hugged me back was priceless. I've missed this for way too long.

A tear escapes my eye as I lightly hum into her ear.

She moves her head away from my chest and kisses me.

Oh, how I've missed this.

I deepened the kiss, weaving my hands into the slight hair that had grown on her head.

After a long time, she pulls away and lays her head on my chest. I just held her there, not saying anything.

I had so much to say. So much had happened in the past few weeks while Kenny was unconscious.

I'd tell her about every single detail she had missed during these last few weeks.

I lay next to her on her tiny bed, and this time she too wrapped her arms around me as I held her closer to me.

"There's a lot that you've missed in the past weeks, baby girl," I say, nuzzling her hair.

"Let's start with Day One," she giggles.

And so I do.

I began telling her about all the events from day one until now.

A/N:
Hello readers! As promised, here's the next chapter, as my exams ended today!!

Kenna is conscious and hasn't lost her memory! That's some really good news.

Honestly, I couldn't bring myself to write something sad or about how Kenna would lose her memory (as yet), so I thought about it positively, and here's our Kenna, who's alright!!

We're so close to the climax of this book! A few more chapters to go, and I hope y'all are going to read this book until the end!😉
