Her Rome

Shoes and a book

A dress and a look,

She was set to go.

Barefoot no more,

Very discreetly, locking the door

Her hair now tied in a bow.

Adventure now awaited her

Against the cold with a coat of fur

She ran to the boat.

The rope was snapped

Gently now, the water lapped

She was soon afloat.

Her mother bid her goodbye

She saw right through her daughter’s lie

No more a child was she.

She’d left her home,

Was off to start her own ‘Rome’

She was as happy as happy one could be.

But cruel was the world,

With its fury unfurled,

It lashed out on her.

Yet, she fought back

No power did she lack

Oh, the days flew by in a blur.

Older now, wiser was she

Stronger now, for everyone to see,

Her huge shadow mirroring her pride.

Arrogance though she didn’t lack,

And once, she forgot to watch her back,

So staining the snow red, she
