show, don't tell

So recently I have been working on a lot of show, don't tell exercises so I thought I'd share them here. None of which are perfect, but still fun to do.

Telling:

Elizabeth had been crying

  Showing:

Elizabeth brushed away her tears with the sleeve of her jacket.

Telling:

It was hot.

Showing:

Salty drops of sweat dribbled down her forehead, nibbling on an ice cream cone Tia tried to cool down.

Telling:

Carl was angry at his mother.

Showing:

Carl slammed his bedroom door in his mother's face. “Why can't you stay out of my life!” he hollered through the door.
