I sat in my office, reviewing my segment for tormorrow morning. I had big criminal case that may lead to the supreme court if miss judge won't throw it out tormorrow.

"Ms Santana?" Rachel knocked on my door before walking in with my coffee. "Excuse me for my tardiness but traffic was hetic today."

"When is it not?" I grumbled and finished marking my text for any errors. "Put it on my desk and pass me those files."

"Yes mam." She did what was told then took a seat at her little desk. "Anything that you would like for me to-

"I need you to fax some files over to Mr Santana and set back my apppointment for that mental health group. I can no longer give a lecture to those kids." I uttered.

"Yes mam .." She got straight on it.

Rachel was the only person I considered a friend, besides Mary and Shelly, that worked at this law firm.

When we were off duties, I'd cut her some slack but when we were on the clock, I was more strict .. not by choice.

My other gyals' were either doctors or rich housewives. All depended on what household rules we were raised upon.

I was set when I first learned how to walk and talk. My father wanted me to have a steady career, nothing else. No boys. No Fun.

So you can imagine me staying in the house reading books or studying for a spelling-bee while my friends played in dirt.

The only good that brung was a great career and no children. I couldn't have children even if I tried tho and thats the secret he left out.

It was his fault.

My phone rung which jerked me out of my trance. I looked at up, zooming in, spotting her name pop up on the screen from afar.

"Rachel!" I said. "Pass me my phone."

"Ok." She quickly handed to me then sat back down. I missed two calls from her, all an hour apart.

"Rachel?" She glanced at me. "Can you run to that old-fashioned marker and get me maybe two blueberry muffins."

"Cynthia .." She groaned but got up, grabbing ma company's card then walking out of the room.

I sat there for a minute hoping she'll call again. It made even more anxious as time went by.
