Chapter 5

 "Too late." Hyunra mused, watching from the rooftop.

 "What?" Sync retorted, evidently uninterested. 

 "Took too long to reply, got beaten to it." She explained in signature monotone. 

 "Tch, that's hardly anything to cry your eyes out about..." Sync uttered, reaching the top of the first flight of stairs. "Anyhow, hang on for a bit, I'll talk to you later." On the other end of the line, Hyunra had rested her head between her knees as she sat, leaving the boy to do as he wished. 

"Hey, you over there." Sync called out to the person who was now not far from him.

Looking up, Runa stopped packing away her sniper rifle. The boy she laid eyes on had made the landing of the clock towers roof. Slowly she stood up, making sure not to move too quickly or look like she was threatening him, "Hey. Thanks for taking that things attention. Did you see another guy while you were down there? I'm kind of working with him..."

"Sorry, but no... Wish I did though." Sync raised an eyebrow, panting from his run. "Let's say we're cool with each other huh? I come in peace." 

Runa grinned, a bit of a laugh on her lips, "Same. I'd no intention of hurting you. In fact I'm delighted to know we're not the only ones fighting these damned things. Come on, I want to find him... he's not answering me over our com."

"Heck, it warms my heart to know that I'm not alone." He rolled his eyes briefly. "Anyhow, was your partner fighting that... thing too?" He pondered on the word, indecisive as to what to make of the demonic beast.

"Yes. But I lost him right after I shot at the building you were on. Sorry about that, I didn't mean to come off as trying to kill you," she answered, ignoring his earlier comment. Bending over, she retrieved the rest of her gear and hoisted it up over her shoulder. With that she started towards the door. 

"Alright, alright... Let's go search then. Won't do any good if he's missing would it?" Sync fixed his intercom back into place, letting Hyunra know that things hadn't fallen into a catastrophic state. "Any ideas on where to start?"

"Yeah, the building you were just on top of. I sent him there with that thing chasing him because I saw you fighting something else. Let’s just hope he's still there and didn't disappear..." Runa started down the stairwell, taking them two at a time.

"Heh, disappear..." Sync had briefly considered asking Hyunra to look around from where she was, but he disliked the idea of that girl doing anything practical in a sense. "That creature on the roof is dead, if that helps at all."

"It is? That's a relief. I thought we were going to have to finish that off too," in all honesty, she'd forgotten about their fight, too caught up in her own and wondering what had happened to Kaede.

"Yeah. Anyway..." Sync leaped down the last few steps, heading towards the arch that marked the entrance of the tower. Though there were few, if any cars that travelled down the street which he faced, he hesitated by the side of the road in case of any other creatures that lurked.

Runa stopped with him, took a quick look around and then proceeded to brush passed the boy. She ran as fast as she could with the load she carried back the way he'd come earlier. Her destination was the abandoned building several yards ahead of her. 

Sync pelted across after her, turning into the dip which led to the lightless stairwell. "Hey," he called back. "Would you prefer to do a split search, cover more ground but risk shit happening, or stick like this?"

Runa halted as she stepped into the darkness of the abandoned building. Glass was everywhere as the door was broken, hanging just barely off its edges. Her heart beat furiously as she looked around, "Shit," she cursed as she couldn't make anything out, "I-I..." breathe, she told herself. Turning she looked straight into the boys amber gaze, "I can take care of myself. We should split, unless you'd advise against it?"
