as the bus came to its last stop, right in front of the camp, people began getting off, gilbert and anne smiled at each other. "anyway," anne said quietly. gilbert looked up, and into her blue eyes, he thought about how gorgeous she was. "anyway," he sighed, "we should probably get going." he said realizing they were the only ones still on the bus.

anne nodded, trying to pull her bag out from under her seat but failing as it was stuck. gilbert giggled while looking at her struggling, "you need some help there?" anne looked up at him, rolling her eyes but still smiling, "oh shut up and just help me." gilbert looked at her with his eyebrows raised, as though expecting something and anne groaned in defeat, "please?" gilbert laughed at her tone, kneeling across from anne and looking under the seat to see what the bag was caught on.

"okay got it! it was just stuck on..." gilbert's voice faded as he rose his head and anne was barely inches away from him. they both smiled softly. he could've counted every freckle on her face, and probably would've had she not moved. she stood up rather suddenly, said a quick thank you, and picked her bag up. gilbert stood up with his bag and followed her out.

once they were off the bus gilbert turned to say something to anne but she was gone. he sighed and heard bash, "ay gilbert! over here." gilbert smiled at his friend and walked over. bash patted his shoulder and gestured towards the list in his hand. "so, we're rooming with a 'cole mckenzie' and a 'jerry baynard' you know them?"

gilbert grinned at the sound of the names on the list, as they had been two of the names that anne had mentioned during their talk on the bus ride. she had referred to cole as a kindred spirit, and to jerry as a dear friend and brother figure. gilbert was quite excited to meet the people that were close to anne as the way she spoke about them made them seem incredible.

"gilbert?" bash said loudly and gilbert snapped out of his trance, "oh uh what?" bash rolled his eyes. "boy you truly are a piece of work. i asked if you knew them?" gilbert smacked his arm lightly. "right. i met jerry briefly months ago but i've never met cole. anne talked about them on the bus though-" "ah thats right," bash cut him off, "you finally got the guts to talk to her huh? how'd it go?"

gilbert rolled his eyes, "actually she sat next to me, and it was because of diana barry." he gestured towards her and anne. "ahh, i should've know you wouldn't have done anything on your own. my bad." bash said with a smirk as gilbert shook his head and shoved him. "oh shut up, not everyone can just call the girl they like an angel and practically be married the next day." "they're just promise rings, how many times do i have to tell you we aren't-"

"excuse me, are you two gilbert and bash?" a kind looking tall blond interrupted, he spoke softly and didn't maintain eye contact for long. gilbert spoke first. "yeah, and you are?" "cole. my name's cole. i'm pretty sure we're bunking together?"

gilbert nodded quickly. "yeah! it's the three of us and jerry. have you seen him? super excited to get to know you by the way." cole smiled slightly at how kind gilbert was, he felt welcome immediately, and that wasn't something he felt often. "oh, no i haven't seen him but i got our room number, and i'm excited to get to know you two aswell."

bash gave cole a welcoming smile, "well then. i think we should get along to our room and look for jerry later on." bash spoke, addressing the fact that they were some of the last people that still weren't in there rooms and they were supposed to get settled in before the first bonfire.

then the three of them began
walking towards the cabins. "hey cole where are we going?" gilbert asked the boy that was walking behind him. "we're in the eleventh cabin." gilbert nodded and walked towards the cabin with a number eleven on the door. "what isn't this-" "the cabin that separates the boy/girl sides?" bash said cutting him off, "yeah. but chances are it won't be your redheaded friend in cabin ten so i wouldn't get too excited." gilbert rolled his eyes but laughed "you are truly the worst." bash shook his head, chuckling.

cole giggled to himself while watching gilbert and bash's banter. he then opened the door and they all stepped inside their home for the next few weeks.

as the bus came to its last stop, right in front of the camp, people began getting off, gilbert and anne smiled at each other. "anyway," anne spoke quietly, as though any sudden movements would scare away the pure happiness she felt in that moment. gilbert looked up at her, "anyway," he sighed, "we should probably get going." he said and anne agreed while noticing how empty their surroundings had become.

anne nodded reluctantly, already missing him, she tried to pull her bag out from under her seat but failing as it was stuck. gilbert giggled while looking at her struggling, "you need some help there?" anne looked up at him and thought this boy is unbelievable, she rolled her eyes, "oh shut up and just help me." gilbert looked at her with his eyebrows raised and anne groaned in defeat, realizing what he was waiting for, she gave in saying a quick "please?" gilbert laughed airily, kneeling across from anne and looking under the seat to see what the bag was caught on.

"okay got it! it was just stuck on..." gilbert's voice faded before he could finish and anne couldn't tell if it was since she couldn't hear anything because of their close proximity or because he really stopped talking. they both smiled softly. his eyes were really pretty. no. that's not enough, they were beautiful. but as soon as she heard her own thoughts she stood up, said a quick thank you, and picked her bag up. she knew gilbert was following her but she walked quickly towards diana and hoped he wouldn't follow. he didn't.

"hey anne," diana spoke in a teasing tone and wore a small smirk on her face. anne scowled "what?" diana giggles at her best friend's temper. "oh nothing, just the fact that you and gilbert just say on a bus for four hours, talked the whole time and i didn't see you argue once!" anne sighed dramatically, "exactly! we just talked i don't see the big deal." diana shook her head at anne's obliviousness but changed the topic.

"we're rooming with ruby, jane, and josie in cabin ten." anne nodded, slightly upset that they hadn't gotten one of the three person cabins and it had just been her, diana, and ruby since she and josie often found themselves arguing—

"diana! anne!" anne turned around to see a very perky josie pye. "i got my list and it seems we'll be bunking together. jane is in the bathroom right now but i haven't seen ruby, have you?" diana nodded, "yes, i sat with ruby on the bus, she went to get our schedule and use the bathroom as well." josie smiled wide. "ahh i see, so should we get going to our cabin? we have to be settled in an hour for the introductory bonfire." diana and anne both nodded and anne felt an awful ounce of relief seeing how nice josie was acting, maybe the summer had been good to her.

the walked to their cabin, and after josie opened the door they stepped into what would be their home for the next few weeks.
