"Not my problem," I said as I shoved the vampire's hand from my mouth. "Now get off me before I torch you."

"Are you not Aimee, then? This is the room where I found her last."

"Why does that matter?" I asked, swinging around to look at him. It was the same man that had led me out of the Embassy to meet with Christian the other night.

He was tall and lean, with bright blue eyes. They were too light to be Dannek eyes but he had the same black hair, tied neatly into a ponytail at the nape of his neck.

"He told me you were his bonded mate. I thought, well, I just assumed to be bonded to the King that you must, I don't know, care?"

"Oh, it's a long story, vampire. One I really don't want to get into. What the hell is your name anyway?"

"Where are my manners? I am Julian," He bent over slightly at the waist the way a butler greeting you at the door of an expensive mansion would. "I am--was-- Christian's advisor. I am also his uncle--on his mother's side. God forbid you think I was ever related to Henric."

"Well, I'd say nice to meet you but it's not. Our mutual disdain of Henric aside, you have got to stop sneaking into my room. It's creepy."

He waved his hand in the air, determined to remain unaffected to my sarcasm.

"I'm here because I need your help."

"I know, you said that already."

"I have reason to believe Christian is in imminent danger."

"I'm sorry to hear that but as I said before, it's not my problem."

Julian's eyes raked around the room before landing back on me. "That looks nasty." His gaze travelled down and he gestured to my stomach. "I know you've been to Faerie. Did they do that to you? Christian was afraid this would happen."

I glanced down at my blood-soaked shirt and crinkled my nose.

"You should see the other girl," I muttered, already headed for my suitcase.

"It seems you had plans to leave this place, anyway. Perhaps we can be of mutual help to one another?"

"Let me guess--If I help you rescue the prince..."

"If you help me rescue the King I am certain he'd be willing to send men to help with your mother's rescue."

"The king. Christian, right? I want to make sure we're talking about the same person because the Christian I spoke to last had zero intentions of helping me with anything."

"I assure you, Ms. Mathews, that is the furthest thing from the truth. But it is not my explanation to give. Perhaps if you come with me, Christian himself can explain to you..."

I swung back around to look at him. "Look, I don't know what you're playing at here but I want nothing to do with it. If Christian is in trouble, then why don't you send a hoard of vampire soldiers to rescue him?"

"I'm afraid, more perturbed by really, that this is currently not an option."

"It's not my responsibility to help him, Julian. Have you tried calling his fiancé?"

"Oh for heaven's sake. I believe him to be in grave danger. Does that not mean anything to you?"

I sighed.

"Why do you think that?"

"Why do I think..." He placed his hands on his hips. "Where should I even begin? Well, for one, he's out there searching for a serial murderer by himself. Because he wanted me here, to keep an eye on you, I agreed to let him go alone. Big mistake that was. But we agreed he'd check in with me every single night as if it was his fucking religion. And it's has been two nights since I have heard from him. Two whole nights. He wouldn't do that, not unless something has happened to him."
