Chapter 4
Benji's POV
"Benji, wake up, we're here."
My eyelids felt heavy as I slowly opened them and sat up. "Already?" I asked.
Ajax let out a deep chuckle. "We made good time, and you slept the whole way."
"I'm sorry Sir...I guess I was a little tired; long day."
"No worries Benji, I'm glad you got some rest. Now let's go in and I'll show you around."
I stepped out of the car and stretched. Before I had a chance to grab my bag out of the back, Ajax had picked it up and a laptop bag of his own. "I can get that...Sir."
"No Benji, I have it."
I turned around and looked at the house before me. "Wow!" I breathed. It was simply amazing. Modern, but classic at the same time and unlike most Malibu homes, it wasn't crowded by other houses. It was almost secluded with the closest neighbour being several hundred feet away and trees and shrubs were strategically placed to give privacy. I followed Ajax down the walk and up the steps to the hand carved front door. My parents had a fair amount of money, so it's not like I wasn't used to nice homes, but this was incomparable. The architecture was unique and the landscaping was done in a natural style, yet still looked immaculately maintained.
Mutely, I followed Ajax in the door after he keyed in a code both on an outside panel and an inside one. "The outside keypad's a lock and the inside one is the alarm," he explained. "Sometimes my brother or close friends use the place so it's just easier to have keyless entry." I just nodded numbly as I looked around the open concept home. I could see the living room, kitchen, dining room and a sunroom that opened onto a deck. The vaulted ceiling in the living room extended high up into the second floor above the living room, with a staircase to the right of us leading to what I assumed were bedrooms in the other half of the house.
"Let me show you to your room," Ajax said as he headed up the stairs. 'My room', I thought with a smile.
"This place is amazing," I gushed.
Ajax smiled, "I like it too, I spend as much time here as possible on the weekends and then during the week I stay at my apartment in L.A."
Ajax led me into a bright and airy room overlooking the ocean. Turning on a lamp, he set my bag down on the bed and then opened the curtains and windows so soon a warm breeze flowed in and I saw the moonlight reflecting off the soft waves of the ocean. The sound of the surf was peaceful and serene and I couldn't think of a better place I wanted to be right now. I stood in front of the window unable to take my eyes off the view.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" he asked as he stepped right up behind me, placing his hands on my shoulders. I simply nodded, unable to draw my eyes away.
"Come on, I'll show you around," he encouraged. Before we left the room, he pointed out the attached bathroom and walk-in closet. Finally noticing the room itself, I quite liked the soft blue walls and Scandinavian furniture. Simple, but elegant. The room was uncluttered to the point of minimalism. "There are plenty of clothes in the closet," he pointed out, "I keep some things on hand for guests. I'm sure there's plenty your size. Help yourself to anything you find."
"Thank you Sir," I replied quietly. My usual exuberance was stilled both by my awe for the house, but mostly for the man before me.
"These are other guest rooms," he pointed out, "but not as nice as that one," he added with a wink that made me blush. "And down here is my room." We walked into a large master bedroom. The walls here were soft tan and the furniture was large and heavy, but the light wood tones made the room seem welcoming. A king size bed was the center of the room with a thick duvet similar to the one in my room, soft and fluffy and I had the urge to take a flying leap onto it.
