As soon as I was outside and out of the sphere of Barapha's influence the heat my body had been producing to compensate for his presence slammed into me full force nearly knocking me off my feet. I was being roasted alive. I braced my hands against my knees and glared at the ground. My vision was shimmering around the edges as I took deep breaths of cool air and tried to will myself to calm down.
I ripped off the dumb leather jacket Sissy had made me wear and sighed at the feeling of air on my bare arms. It reminded me of Barapha's lips on my shoulder and how good it felt. Eh? I straightened up and shook my head. The heat began fading as my body realized it was no longer in danger of freezing to death.
I saw Sissy and Octavia waiting on the sidewalk outside the club and I walked over to them. Sissy's arms were crossed over her well-endowed chest and she looked upset. Octavia smiled when she saw me and signed, "Well that was fun!"
I laughed and Sissy turned to glare at me and then looked away. I sighed and asked, "What did I do now, Sis?" She huffed angrily and turned away from us, stomping off across the street. I sighed again and looked both ways before grabbing Octavia's hand and following after Sissy.
"I'm sorry about feeding off Barapha but he threatened Octavia and I couldn't help it--"
"It not about that!" she snapped spinning around to face us. We stopped before her and I let go of Octavia's hand.
"Then what is it about?" I asked. I hated when she was upset at me. I hated when she was upset at all. It was unnatural. Sissy was usually always in a good mood. I was the sour puss.
"It's about you!" she said and I took a step back.
"What did I do?"
She sighed and shook her head looking up at the sky in exasperation.
"Sis, what did I do?" I asked again closing the gap between us and taking her hands. After a brief moment of ignoring me she looked down at me and sighed again.
"I tried to stop him. I thought he was going to kill you and I tried to stop him. I tried everything, Chase. I put so much heat into him, I whispered so many words and nothing worked," she paused and looked at the ground. I still didn't see what I did wrong. She looked up at me and I saw a hint of blue flicker briefly in her green eyes before she pushed me away.
"Then you tell him to stop and he does. And he blushed! I have never seen him blush before. Sure he gets a little pink after feeds, but not like that. You never even use compulsion! You suck at it! So--"
"Wait a minute! Are you saying you're upset at me because my compulsion worked on him but yours didn't?" I asked with a laugh and she turned her nose up at me looking away.
I saw Octavia sign something out of the corner of my eye but I didn't quite catch it. I laughed again and asked, "Sis, are you jealous?" The thought thrilled me. Sissy was so perfect. Everybody wanted Sissy. I didn't envy her anything, but it was kind of nice that for once she envied me.
"No!" Sissy shrieked. "I'm not jealous!"
I noticed Octavia signal something again and suddenly something hard and cold smacked into my back and freezing pythons curled around my waist squeezing me tight.
"You should be, Sis. Compared to him you are positively frigid," Barapha said bending over to rest his chin on my shoulder and smirking at Sissy and Octavia who had smacked herself in the forehead. She had been trying to tell me that Barapha was coming and I hadn't noticed. Curses.
