Chapter Five

Jerry -

I was buzzing the whole of Wednesday. I didn't have a single lesson with Erin all day but the thought of staying after school with her kept me going. Then again, I also got just a teeny bit depressed every time I thought of the meeting at lunch on Tuesday. Erin was okay until Tom started talking about teaching me skateboarding... What did that mean?

During the rest of lunch she barely spoke to me, and then we had French together but she barely spoke to me then too. I didn't understand what I'd done wrong; I had to ask her.

When school was finally over, I hurried to the room we'd met before and sat on a chair near the front. No one else was there.

Five minutes later Tom arrived. He seemed surprised to see me.

'Hi Jerry... You're early.' He paused for a moment, dropped his shoulder bag by a desk and walked towards me, 'are you okay?'

'Yeah, course I am,' I lied looking over his shoulder at the door. I was frantic to know what was up with Erin.

'Oh, you sure?'

I nodded, wanting to turn the conversation from me, 'yup. What are we doing today?'

'Um,' Tom looked back at the door as more people started coming in, including Paige and Erin. I grinned as she came and sat next to me.

'Hi Tom,' she said.

'Hi Erin,' he turned back to me, 'um, I'll announce that in a sec, are you coming after today? Skateboarding?'

'Oh,' I groaned, 'I forgot my board!'

He laughed, 'no problem, you can use mine.'

'Really?'

'Can I too?' Erin asked.

'Sure.'

I grinned at him as he stood up and made his way to the front.

My eyes glided to Erin. 'Hey, Erin,' I began, cursing myself inwardly hearing how stupid I sounded, 'I'm really sorry, I don't know what I've done but... I want to apologise...'

She looked at me for a moment and smiled, 'that's okay. I forgive you.'

I was a bit surprised that she forgave me so quickly, but then again, Erin was nice, wasn't she? All doubt gone, I looked back at the front and watched Tom and Paige.

According to them we were going to be focusing on planning our videos but at the end of the session we would get to take the cameras home and begin filming -though we had to take great care of them!

When they handed out the folders we'd begun working on last time, Erin sighed.

'I still don't know what to do,' she sighed.

'I thought Tom gave you some ideas.'

'Well, he did but they weren't that good, were they?'

'Oh, you sounded like you liked them yesterday,' I started.

She looked at me. Her expression was very similar to what it had been the day before. I shut up.

'Do you have any ideas for me?'

I felt really conscious all of a sudden. I wanted to use my ideas, Tom had thought they were pretty cool and I wanted to present them myself. They were apparently original. But I wanted to make Erin happy...

She pouted, 'please, Jerry? I'll love you forever!'

I gave her my piece of paper enthusiastically. What a loser.
