"Marjie! Help!" My younger brother Scotty welps from the driveway of our new house. We just moved to Los Angeles. There are two weeks of the local school districts school year left. So all the kids are still in school in our neighborhood.
"What?" I groan running to meet him. He's balancing 3 boxes on top of each other.
"Help!" He says. I grab on of the boxes and head into the garage. Our new house is pink. I think it's cute but Scotty said it makes him want to barf. I'm just happy we don't live in an apartment like we used to. Now we have an actual backyard and live in an actual neighborhood. I hope I can make some new friends. All I've seen so far are boys, baseball boys. They're so small and scrawny. I have no interest in them.
"Where'd you think mom put my skates?" I ask looking at the writing on all the cardboard boxes.
"Who cares? You're terrible at skating!" Scotty reminds me. I just got my skates before we moved, from my best friend Lillie. She skates to so she decided I could use some this summer. Now I actually have a place to practice.
"Well, I'm still learning!" I tell him. "You suck at baseball!" He furrows his eyebrows in anger.
"You know what? Don't bring my baseball playing abilities into this!" He says raising his voice.
"Hey!" A voice says. We turn around and see our mom standing in the entry what of the garage. "Quit arguing. We need to decide where we're gonna eat for dinner."
"We have to go ouuuuut?" Scotty groans.
"What do you want to eat? The cardboard boxes?" My mom asks tilting her head. I laugh. "We have no food."
"Fine." He whines. Well, this's going to be a long summer.
