After we get back from the lunch Josie and I sit on my bed talking. Well, I'm talking about Benny to her while she lays on her stomach reading a TEEN magazine.
"You know what?" Josie says. "I bet he likes you but is too chicken to tell you."
"Yeah right." I scoff.
"I bet he got you the prettiest birthday present, maybe a necklace, new earrings?" She guesses.
"I haven't seen him yet today." I tell her.
"He'll get you something." Josie assures me.
"I hope." I groan.
Josie leaves to go eat dinner, but Scotty comes home. But I hear a lot of boys voices. I go out to the living room and see all the boys sitting around the TV. They turn to look at me and all smile.
"Happy Birthday!" They all yell.
"Thank you." I laugh.
"We got you something!" Tommy exclaims.
"Really? You didn't have to." I tell him.
"But you're a teenager !" He reminds me. I laugh. They hand me a brown paper bag. I open it and see what they got me. Bubble gum, milk duds (my favorite), butter fingers, dip dabs, junior mints, nik L lip, wax lips, cracker jacks, and a Jackie magazine. Wow. They got so much!
"Aww thank you guys!" I say happily. "This is so sweet."
"Yeah! No problem!" Squints says. I open the bubble gum and start chewing a piece. I go to my room and put all the stuff down. This has been a really great birthday. I hear all the boys yelling at the TV they're probably watching the baseball game.
Later that night after I've opened all my presents I go sit out on the curb and watch the sunset. After a while I see Benny's front door open and he walks out and towards me. I'm so nervous. We're all alone. What do I do? What do I do?
"Hey." He says sitting down next to me.
"Hi." I smile.
"Did you have a good birthday?" He asks.
"Yeah." I nod.
"That's good." He nods. "I got you something." He pulls a small black box out of his pocket. Aww! I can't believe it! Josie was right he really did get me something extra.
"You already got me something!" I remind him.
"I know." He smiles shyly. "Open it." He hands me the box and I open the top. Oh my god. I can't believe it. It's a necklace with a pearl hanging from it. That's so sweet! And it's so pretty.
"Oh my god!" I exclaim quietly. "You didn't have to Benny." He blushes.
"I know but it's your 13th birthday, you need something special." He tells me.
"Aww thank you!" I tell him I hug him. For real! I'm hugging Benny! He smells good, I think he put on cologne or something. "I really love it." I tell him after we hug.
"Good. I hoped you would." He tells me. I smile.
"I, I'm going to your moms wedding." I blurt our. He raises his eyebrows and smiles.
"Really?" He asks.
"Yeah, she invited us last minute." I explain. "It was really nice of her."
"Great." He smiles happily.
"Marjie! Come in! Mom wants you!" Scotty yells out of the front door.
"'Kay!" I yell back then turn to Benny.
"I'll see you I guess." He says standing up.
"Yeah." I nod. "Thank you so much Benny. I really love the necklace it's really sweet of you." I ramble.
"Yeah, of course." He tells me. "I'm glad you do." I nod. "Happy birthday."
"Thank you." I smile heading back to my front door.
"Bye." He waves walking backwards.
"Bye!" I call. This was the best birthday yet.
