4th of July is getting close. Mrs. Rodriguez wants me to help her with the cookies for the cookout. I went to the sandlot yesterday with Scotty and all the boys were weird again. They wouldn't look me in the eyes. It hurt the worst with Benny. He wouldn't talk to me on the way home like we normally do. He just, acted like I wasn't there. We're on our way home from the sandlot again and Benny's talking to Scotty way ahead of me while I pretend to be reading my book and walking at the same time. Benny and Scotty say their usual goodbyes then head towards their houses. I wait behind and work up the courage to talk to Benny about why he's being weird.
"Benny?" I ask quietly.
"Yeah?" He asks turning around.
"Can I ask you something?" I say.
"What?" He questions. I look him in the eyes.
"Do you, um, not like me?" I ask looking up at him. Since he's a couple inches taller than me. His brown eyes glimmer under the setting sun.
"What?" He asks like he didn't hear me correctly. "What're you talking about?"
"Well, you just kinda haven't been talking to me that much. Not that that's a bad thing but I felt like you might be avoiding me or something." I blabber trying to fill the silence. He continues looking at me right in the eyes.
"I, I didn't know you felt that way." He tells me sounding guilty. I just nod waiting for him to say something else. "I think you're cool, 'kay Marjie?"
I feel butterflies in my stomach."Really?" I ask. He nods half-smiling. "Good, cause I thought all the boys hated me."
"Hate, is far from how everyone feels about you." He tells me then starts off. Wow. He's so sweet. And nice.
"Bye, Benny." I call before walking towards my house.
"Yeah, Bye Marjie." He waves opening his front door. Maybe he isn't so bad.
Hey guys, finally changed my username. Also, I'm think I'm going to start another fan fiction about Yeah-yeah. If so would you read it?
