Leo was like every other girl from Queens, New York. Smart, pretty, and usually a good person. She had always been good at keeping her cool when things went wrong. But, when she woke up the morning of the first day of school, she couldn't have been in a worse attitude.
Leo despised high school. Now that she was a sophomore, her older sister Aiyana said that things would get better. Teenagers would become nicer, teachers would be more understanding, and her school experience would become enjoyable. That was not the case for Leo.
"Leo," Jacy, Leo's older brother, yelled from the kitchen. "Lena and Eli are going to be here in ten minutes and your ass better be ready!"
Leo groaned loudly and pulled herself out of bed, almost instantly wanting to curl back up under the blankets and go to bed. Her curly hair was poofy and knotted, her eyes had extreme dark circles beneath them from long nights over the summer of staying up late and watching Netflix, and her lips were extremely chapped.
Thankfully, Leo laid out an outfit the previous night and quickly got dressed. She wore a pair of light wash, high-rise, vintage denim shorts and tucked in a long-sleeved, striped shirt. On her feet was a pair of dirty, white converse, and she wore yellow socks that went well with her shirt. Over her long sleeve shirt, she threw on her black denim jacket and quickly pulled back her knotted, curly hair into a messy bun.
"Dammit," Leo groaned as her hair tie snapped. She let out a huff and grabbed another, this tie being careful and successfully tying her hair up.
Leo never really wore a lot of makeup to school, but since it was the first day of school she decided to wear a little bit more than usual. She put concealer under her eyes to wide her dark circles, some warm brown eyeshadow, mascara, tinted chapstick, and did her eyebrows. Once her makeup was done she brushed her teeth and made her way downstairs to the kitchen.
Jacy and Aiyana sat at the small dining table eating scrambled eggs and looking at their phones. Leo knew she didn't have time and, instead, opted for a small container of strawberries she was going to eat with her lunch, and a bottle of water. Just as she finished her strawberries, the doorbell rang.
"Bye guys," Leo quickly waved goodbye to her siblings before grabbing her backpack that hung by the front door and running out to see her friends Elena and Elijah.
Elena was a Hispanic girl with tan skin, short dark hair, and plump pink lips. She wore a pair of black plaid pants that had a black belt around the waist with a white t-shirt tucked in and a pair of black combat boots on her feet. She had black eyeliner winged out either side of her eyes almost perfectly, and even had a little bit of black eyeliner under her eye. She had cut her hair over the summer, it now sitting just about her shoulders instead of at her shoulder blades. over her shoulder and across her chest was a black leather bag she substituted for a backpack.
