Koushi was kneeling down near the fire, as winter ravaged outside. His three children sat on the couch, speaking within themselves. He turned his head to check them, their nearly sleeping selves leaning against each other for warmth.

He held his hands out to warm himself, closing his eyes and breathing rationally. The ashen sat comfortably and in silence, letting his body relax from its precious tense manner. His mouth creaked into a small smile, the serenity was peaceful.

Until he came into the living room.

"Tobio, Kei, Tadashi, it's time for bed now. Your father and I have to talk." Koushi hummed, not turning around at all.

There were a few groans in protest before Eita cleared his throat. Kei and Tadashi faced their father with disappointment, and Tobio could only look down. The trio filed out of the room, leaving an eerie silence.

"I saved every letter you wrote me..." Koushi started, shutting his eyes tightly and pulling his hands away from the fireplace. He stood, and his robe flowed as he stood and reached for the box on the counter.

"From the moment I saw you, I knew you were mine, you said you were mine. I thought you were mine..." He picked a couple letters, smiling faintly at the memories.

"Do you know what Kenjiro said, when I told him what you'd done? He said, 'You have married an Icarus, he has flown too close to the sun.'" The feminine male spoke of his brother, who also was very concerned with the issue. He was going as far as to ignoring Eita existed at all.

Koushi heard the male's footsteps, and reached out to make his husband stop walking. His hazel eyes glared red from the fire from his furious self and fireplace. His index finger stretched out to point at the male accusingly.

"Don't, take another step in my direction, I can't be trusted around you. Don't think you can talk your way, into my arms, into my arms." The ashen turned away from looking into the tired and lonely silver eyes of his lover. His arms crossed, fingers tapping over the revealed pale skin.

"I'm re-reading the letters you wrote me. You can stand over there if you want, I don't know who you are. I have so much to learn." His usually caring and composed voice was full of the regret and sorrow he felt in a melodic tune.

The pale careful fingers crumpled the papers in his pained grasp, and he soon tossed them into the fire, making the both of them widen their eyes in surprise. "I'm reading your letters and watching them burn. I'm watching them burn."

When Koushi finally looked at his husband, his eyes were filled with so many emotions, the main ones being disgust and self-hatred. Eita almost reached out to assure him that it was all his own fault, that his lover did nothing wrong, that it would all be fine.

But this wasn't some written love story. (a/n: little do you know)

"You published the letters she wrote to you, you told the whole world how you brought this girl into our bed. In clearing your name, you have ruined our lives." His voice nearly cracked, tears neared his eyes, but he wasn't crying, not yet.

The woman he spoke of was Shimizu Kiyoko, who was very well know for having everything. She was kind and shy, yes, but no one had ever seen the side Eita saw that night.

"Heaven forbid someone whisper, 'He's part of some scheme.' Your enemy whispers. So you have to scream!" Koushi mourned, tears leaking. "I know about whispers, I see how you look at my brother."

Eita attempted to near him again, but it failed and Koushi spun around to look at him with those raging eyes.

"Don't!" Koushi admonished, bringing his hand to his mouth. "I'm not naive, I have seen women around you. Don't think I don't see, how they fall for your charms. All your charms!" Slashing his hand through the air in frustration, he rubbed his tears away.  "I'm erasing myself from the narrative. Let future historians wonder how Sugawara reacted, when you broke his heart!"

"You have thrown it all away, stand back, watch it burn. Just watch it all burn," the male retaliated, almost giving into his heart's desires again.

He gripped his robe in the area of his heart and practically stomped towards his husband, who was in immediate fear, shock, and disappointment in himself. Koushi looked at him up and down, sneered, and dragged him to the children's room. The door was creaked open and showed the children sleeping.

"And when the time comes, explain to the children. The pain and embarrassment you put their mother through!" The ashen guided Eita out to the hallway where he stood where their family began.

He pointed a finger at his children, and sobbed out, giving up in restraining his tears. "When will you learn, that they are your legacy?" He raised his hand to his chest, referring to himself now. "We are your legacy!"

"If you thought you were mine! Don't!" Eita's husband concluded, face absolutely red and filled with tears. The anger flashed out, and the other's face went pale, tears still streaming. "Go... I can't have you influence my children."

Eita paused, wishing this was all a nightmare, and hoping his husband would be next to him in the morning.

None of that happened as Koushi stormed off, heading to the living room. Eita was left utterly speechless, he couldn't apologize after all of this, the backlash from Koushi and Kenjiro.

He left the house with only one thing imprinted in his mind.

The sight of his cheerful and ever happy husband breaking down and shattering before his very eyes.
