"BOOM" another crash came out of the sky, shaking the ground. "What..!" Lily started. Then she saw it: the gloriously vile plan James Potter had come up with. People crowded the area around the Great Lake trying to get a better glimpse at what was going on.

"Swish!" A tentacle of the Giant Squid followed the rat across the lawn, until it collided with Severus Snape. The tentacle lifted him high in the air. "SEV!" Lily screamed, running over to the edge of the water. "Wingardium Leviosa!" Lily

heard as Sirius lifted a bunch of toilet seats, and started to play a game like horse-shoe with Snape as the target. "LET HIM GO!" Lily yelled, almost in tears.

By the side of the lake behind the tentacles Lily spotted James laughing hysterically near a pile of what looked like dirty underwear. "JAMES POTTER!" She screamed at the brute. "YOU LET HIM DOWN THIS INSTANT!" Her voice grew louder and more desperate with each word. Remus raised his wand, giving Lily a look to say 'I'm sorry' and pointed at the underwear. "STOP!" Lily shrieked, brandishing her own wand. "Avis!" Lily stuttered. A flock of beautiful canaries flew out the end of her wand, which she then pointed at Remus, Peter, Sirius and James, who were all standing around the pile of dirty underwear, preparing for the next step. "Oppugno." Lily finished. The birds, who were innocently flying above Lily's head, took a turn towards the boys and started dive-bombing their group. "Ouch!" Lily could hear as the birds pecked at their skin. "Make them stop!" They screamed. Instead, Lily turned towards Snape. "Wingardium Leviosa." She lifted the toilet seats off of Sev's body, freeing him ever so slightly. "Cunfundo," Lily tried at the Squid, who didn't seem to be affected, but dropped Snape anyways and gracefully swam deep into the lake.

Lily ran over to Severus and checked to see if he was alright. "No broken bones," he said towards Lily, trying to calm her concern. "But, I had it under control." He lied. "It's not that..." Lily responded, slightly humiliated for him. "I just...sometimes I can't help but get involved. I'm sorry, Sev." Severus turned his head, not wanting to meet her eyes and started to get up. "Evans!" Lily heard a voice coming up to her. "Lily, I didn't know it would go like this..err..I didn't know you would be here!" James tried. It was a pathetic excuse for an apology and Lily wasn't going to have it. "James Potter, you arrogant toe-rag!" She shoved his arm and James took a step back. "Didn't know I was going to be here!?!" She continued, her voice growing louder with anger. "Otherwise it would have been JUSTIFIED, right!?!" The challenge must have been rhetorical because James backed up, genuinely scared of his girl. He didn't say it out loud, but she was sexy like this; all fired up and passionate. "C'mon James." Sirius interjected. "I guess some people can't see a good joke even if it is right in front of them." The Marauders started to walk away. "Once you find a good joke," Lily yelled after them "show me! Otherwise keep your filthy pranks away from me and my friends!" The frustration was overwhelming. "UGH!" Lily screamed, and collapsed into a pile on the grass. "Lily?" A soft voice penetrated her shell made of cloak. "are you okay?" It asked. Crap. In all of this hatred, she forgot about the real victim, her friend. And it was a little disconcerting how easily she did so.

The flock students who crowded around the lake started to thin. Lily sat up. "I'm fine." She mumbled and tossed her hair out of her eyes. "You sure?" Severus asked. When did the roles get reversed like this? "Yeah." She responded. "What about you?" "Aww, a little but of bruising, but I'll be all right." Severus responded. "Do you need the hospital wing? Maybe a potion to make you a little less sore?" Lily pleaded in her mind that he did, for she could feel the other student's eyes still on her and needed an excuse to leave. "I'll be fine." Severus repeated, obviously more concerned with the girl. "Okay, well, I'm a little worn." Lily said, which wasn't completely a lie. "I think I'm just going to go back to my dormitory. I need to finish packing and I need a little rest." This time, it wasn't an excuse. Lily felt like all the energy was drained out of her. "Okay." Severus responded. "If you need me, you know where I am." He offered. "You know I'll always be there for you?" Severus asked, looking at her protectively. "Always." Lily responded before getting up and walking back to the castle, with a little less spring in her step.
