A Rainy Sick Day

Once you were all dried up and comfortable in some of the Doctor's smaller fitting clothes- which currently made you look like an oompa loompa in hand-me-downs, you had wished for a nice warm cup of cocoa to curl up with. And just as you thought that flimsy thought, so it was. The TARDIS had delivered you a steaming hot cup of cocoa on the sink in the bathroom. You looked at yourself in the mirror after you took a sip- you didn't even want to know where in the ship she got it from. The mirror told you that you looked at least a little better than you had out in the rain. Your eyes still puffy, and your face quite flushed, you looked like you'd been crying- which wasn't at all a lie. Sighing, you picked up the cup and made your way to the front area.

The Doctor had been true to his word, and the TARDIS hadn't moved anything around- at least not while you were in it, or actively searching for it. You could get used to life in the TARDIS- if there ever came a time where that was an option.

You saw the Doctor, with his back to you, scrunched up on the TARDIS floor, gazing at something beyond her open doors. You cleared your throat, not wanting to disturb him, but also not wanting to scare him by walking into his personal space. You didn't know him well enough yet to know how he would react.

He immediately turned to you, still more than a little damp, as evidenced by his wet, droopy hair. He waved you over with a small, shy smile. You guessed that he wanted to make you feel welcome but didn't know if you were still mad at him. You joined him with no qualm, but you were still mad at him. And would be for a while.

So mad, in fact, that you took the towel that was still on your shoulders and placed it on the Doctor's head. He seemed to warm up a little at that, but you just shrugged. Being mad was proving a difficult thing with those big dumb eyes. Indifferent would have to suffice.

You sat next to him while he appraised you.

"Well that's cuter than I thought it would be." He mumbled, which would have been barely loud enough for you to hear, had you not been as close as you were.

"Hm?" You made sure you heard him correctly.

"I uh..." He looked suddenly embarrassed, as if he hadn't realized he'd said it aloud. "Erm, we've got to get you into something more comfortable." He amended with the shy smile from earlier.

"Well," You chuckled. "It wouldn't hurt to be in pants that I don't have to hold onto as I walk, lest they fall down." He chuckled with you. You smiled at him and turned forward, for the first time, realizing where you were- what the Doctor had been so enraptured by. You didn't even know how to describe it. "Is this the Milky Way?"

"Another galaxy, actually. One of my favorites. A very old cluster of stars that has seen many-a dark day and continues to shine brighter than ever with each passing millennium. Your people have come to call it z8_GND_5296." He replied a bit absently- fondly, even.

"Does it belong to any less severe and confusing nickname, like the Milky Way? That's like someone calling their daughter Aritzmata Von Nichtdehosef and calling their son John." You couldn't believe you were jesting with an alien man you'd know for what amounted to three hours, on his telepathic spaceship-home, in front of a galaxy you'd never heard of and couldn't pronounce, not two hours after the man assaulted a group of your attackers with a giant prehistoric bird called Laufey, but here you were. He chuckled and seemed to unwittingly move closer to you as his head tilted in your direction. He turned it and said almost into your ear canal,

"Kanndy with a K, for short." His breath tingled on your ear, and you took a sip of your cocoa. He gaped and moved to observe the cup. "So that's where it went!"

"The cup? The TARDIS overheard me say- or think" You amended. "That I wanted some hot cocoa, and produced this for me..." When his face broke into a bigger smile than he'd allow it to after today, you cringed and spoke slowly. "It was yours, wasn't it?" He laughed quietly.

"Well, yours is still in the kitchen. I was on my way to fetch it for you, since I'd forgotten you didn't know where the kitchen might be, but I er..." He looked out to the starry vastness.

"You got distracted." You allowed yourself a little smile at his sheepish look of apology. Without thinking, you held the cup out in his direction. As much as you were shocked at your actions, you managed to play it off and turned back to Kanndy. After a moment of what you were guessing was also shock on his end, he took the cup from you. Before he took a sip, you realized you should warn him. "It's not as hot as it was anymore. Sorry."

"No harm done, Starlight." He disclaimed after a sip. Your face heated ever so slightly at the nickname he'd chosen for you.

"Starlight?"

"Yes, you are." He smiled, still lapping up the large expanse with his eyes. You stole the stolen cup back from him and took a sip.

"Then I guess you're Mr. Stood-Me-Up-And-Stole-My-History-Book- For-Three-Weeks." He stiffened, and you could feel the tension you'd created.

"I'm sorry-" He tried to explain, but you hushed him with a heavy finger in the air.

"Hush, Doctor. You're here now." Your lazy conscience added the last bit for a reason you couldn't place. You suddenly found yourself very drained by the days events. Being mad at your strange alien dubbed Mr. Stood-You-Up-And-Stole-Your-History-Book- For-Three-Weeks, or even any manner of thinking would have to wait. You felt yourself lean on his shoulder as you drifted off, not even sure if it was welcomed, but utterly uncaring regardless. You vaguely felt an arm ghost around your shoulders, and a soft cooing next to you, as the cup was taken from your hands. Distantly before all was black, you thought you heard him say,

"And here, I will be, my little Starlight."
