♂️ JASON'S POV

I meet my team in the foyer of the house we are camped out in. It's an old safe house my parents purchased for when they were out in the field and didn't want backlash from their missions showing up at our home.

My parents worked for the Order my entire life—naturally I had to follow suit. The Order–albeit a bit off base lately– is considered the police for the paranormals.

I'm technically referred to as mundane but every generation in my family has been part of the paranormal world. Humans do not typically get the privilege of knowing about anything on this side of the veil. We have our own world apart from the one's humans have. Slowly, throughout the years, paranormals have been finding ways to leak into the human side of the veil. My parents worked hard to be sure they didn't destroy the veil completely.

Remy is one of those paras that can slip out.

When I turned 18, I decided to become a bounty hunter. I not only got to go into the field and fight the paras that broke protocol, but I am specially trained to find people. I can find just about anyone–except Remy. She was also a bounty hunter and she knows how to hide well. It took two years to lure her out of hiding. But with Cade's help, I succeeded.

Tonight will be the night I succeed in my three year fight to bring Remy to justice.

Kenneth's body appears in the mirror by the front door, his large boots scuffing the linoleum until he comes to a stop next to me with a closed laptop in hand. He eyes me warily and gestures to it. "Did you check your e-mail today?" He sets the laptop down on a wooden end table. I give him an uninterested glance, returning my focus quickly to fixing my tie. "You'll want to read this. There's been a slight change in plans." Kenneth shoves the laptop closer to me and opens it.

My men continue fixing their own attire around me. It's been quiet between everyone this evening, most likely due to the nerves I'm sure we are all sharing. It's been years of looking for this woman and tonight just might be the night it ends.

Then on to the next killer...

My features are unimpressed as I stare at his reflection in the mirror, he shrugs. I finishing fixing my tie to the best of my ability and take a look at Kenneth's open email. My lips form a straight line, annoyance curving up my spin. I don't have fucking time for a change in plans.

I read over the first paragraph, growing pissed as I do.

"Fuck. Why?" I snap the laptop shut, not bothering to read the entire email.

The Order isn't pleased with my involvement with Cade so they are sending Abrax in with my team. Abrax is the biggest asshole I've ever met aside from Cade. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Remy almost married him or anything.

Nothing at fucking all.

Cade went rogue when Abigail died. He went off on a death hunt–ready to kill both Remy and I. He believes it's mostly my fault because I knew that Remy was different. Cade wants me dead for allowing Remy–a rogue para–around Abigail, putting her at risk. He doesn't realize how sick I feel every day–wishing it were me instead of my beloved sister.
