Kit's POV

How the hell could I lose my phone? My dad made me buy a new one.  What sucks the most is Ming's phone number was in that phone. I have no way of contacting him now.  I tried looking him up on Facebook and other social media outlets but do you know how many ways there are to spell Dechapanya?  A fucking ton. I gave up after trying to stalk a handful of them. I pull up to school and Kaari is out the door before I can put it in park.  I think she might be more excited to start school than I am. It's not that I'm super excited to be stuck inside for seven hours of the day, but the sooner we start the sooner I graduate.  I'm hoping the everyday grind of school will keep my mind off of Ming.

"Looking good, Kaari," I hear one of my friends whistle.

"Hey, eyes off my sister." I bump Pha in the shoulder before clasping hands with Forth.  Phun has his nose in his phone, probably texting Noh. Those two have been conjoined at the hip ever since Phun asked Noh out.  I'm not sure how he affords to take that bottomless pit on a date. I can say the same thing about Pha with Yo. When you get Noh and Yo together it really is a sight to behold at how much food gets consumed.  I guess it's a good thing both Phun and Pha come from money.

"Hey Kit!  When did you get back?  We haven't seen hide nor hair of you the whole summer," Pha complains.

I shrug.  "I've been busy."

"What about you Forth?  We didn't see much of you either," Phun adds.

"Working.  Unlike you three I ain't from money.  I've saved up just enough to buy that classic bike I've been wanting to get and restore," Forth says with pride.

"You mean that hunk of junk?" Pha sneers.

"It won't be after I've fixed it up.  It's gonna fly."

"Sure."

"Geez!" Phun groans. "Every class I have this year is AP.  I'm going to be drowning in homework."

"Nah, you'll charm your way out of extra work like you did last year.  I don't think I've ever seen McGee so happy to see a student in my life," Forth gags.

"It's my curse to make old ladies fall in love with me," Phun teases.

"Well this year she's going to wish she didn't know my name," Pha announces. Even though Pha is an A student for some reason Principal McGee liked to pick on him.

"How are you going to do that?" Forth wonders.

"I'm just not gonna take any of her shit."

"Phana!"

Pha turns pale hearing that familiar voice.

"Oh, hello ma'am."

"Why aren't you in your homeroom right now?" Principal McGee asks with a note of authority.

"I'm headed there right now, ma'am."

"You and your Tiger boys were just dawdling, weren't you?"

"Yes, ma'am," Pha whispers.

"That is no way to start a new semester Mr. Kongthanin."

"..."

"Perhaps staying after school in detention will put you on the right track?" she purrs.

"Yes, ma'am."

Looking at us all pointendly she booms, "Are you all just going to stand here all day?"

"Uh no ma'am, I mean yes ma'am, I mean I'm just um..." Pha stutters.

"Well which is it, yes or no?"

With his head down he mutters, "No ma'am."

"GOOD! Now MOVE!"

"Yes ma'am," Pha yells turning to run.

As we get a ways down the hall I wink at Pha.  "I'm sure glad you didn't take any of her shit, Pha.  You really told her off, huh?"

Pha punches my shoulder before speeding off to his first class.

The next few hours drag by and I'm ready when it's time for lunch.  Living in California is great. We can eat lunch outside almost all year round.  I hate being cooped up inside and relish the sunshine.

Taking our lunches over to the bleachers I see Fi trip and get his foot stuck in a football helmet causing him to fall over.

"Nice one Fi!  Are you sure you are cut out for football?" I yell.

"He's taking us straight to the championships with those twinkle toes," Forth adds.

I don't see the point of sports.  Other than the tight uniforms they wear they all just look like a bunch of buffoons chasing after a ball.  Spending time in shop class taking things apart, seeing how it works, and then putting it back together better than it was is more my speed.

"Tell us about your summer, Kit.  Did you meet any hot guys?" Pha asks.  I'm sure my smile is giving me away but just thinking of Ming makes my heart beat faster.

"That smile says it all.  Now spill," Forth demands.

"I met someone on the beach.  It was nothing. Just a summer fling."  I'm lying through my teeth. It wasn't nothing.  It was everything and then some. I had hoped as we parted that it wouldn't become just a summer fling.  Damn lost phone.

"I don't believe you.  Your sister mentioned you met someone special.  Spent most of your time with him before coming home."

Spent most of my time with him, her and Rune, I think irritably.

"You haven't stayed in touch with him?" Phun asks.

"Lost his contact information.  I'm filing it away as a good memory."

"How sad.  I think you will meet him again."  Phun, always the romantic.

I hope like hell that I do, but I'm not holding my breath.
