PoV: Shadow
     
  It was like Sonic was stuck in his progress again. He walked around sometimes, but he was mostly on all fours. After his run, he was much more emotional.

"Grr..." Sonic growled as he played with the ball Rouge bought him.

"He's more vocal, don't you think?" Amy asked.

"He is, maybe he'll start talking again," Tails pet Sonic over the side of the couch, "right Sonic?"

  Sonic just titled his head as he looked at him. He went back to playing, it was nice to see him happy for so long. I watched him for a little while, he fell asleep after I fed him.

--- Night Fall ---     

PoV: Sonic

  Naps were the best, I liked it when Shadow would pet me as I slept. His touch, it was so much more soothing than the others. Shadow... S-h-a-d-o-w his name seems so easy to say. So why can't I?

  Everyone was asleep by now. Shadow was gone, Tails was the only one who lived here. There were pictures everywhere. A blue hedgehog with him in almost every one. They told me that was me. That who I was before the professor took me away.

I took one of the pictures. If it was me, did I still look the same now? I looked in the mirror in my room. I turned the light on and stood up. The red shoes and gloves were I ones I wore in the field. They were mine, this was my home.

"Do you remember now? Our life, your life?"

  Not all if it, but I know this is home.

"Sonic."

  Yes?

"Do you know why Shadow feels different?"

  No, he just does. Do you know why?

"No, I'm afraid I don't know either."

  Can I ask you something?

"Hmm?"

  What are you and why do you talk to me?

"I'm the result of a broken soul. I talk to you because no one else will."

  They talk to me.

"But they speak to you as if you were a pet or a child."

  Is that bad? I don't really mind.

"No, I suppose it isn't. The sun will rise soon. Go to sleep."

Okay, I yawned and stretched. I laid down in bed. I curled up against my pillow and slept.

--- Next Day --- 

  Shadow wasn't here... He was always here. I didn't like that he wasn't here. Rouge wasn't here either.

  Tails, I pulled on his glove, where's Shadow? He's late.

"Sonic, you need something?" He asked.

  I want to know where Shadow is. He's supposed to be with here like he always is. Where did he go? I asked.

"Sonic," Tails sat down in front of me, "is something wrong?"

  Where is Shadow?

"Hey Tails, is something going on with Sonic?" Amy asked.

"Not really sure. Normally Shadow can tell but G.U.N won't stop pestering him about some mission. I think he might be killing the commander right now," Tails answered.

  Finally, you told me where he is. Wait... what's gun?

"That might be freaking him out," Sticks came in.

"What?"

"Shadow's been here every single day before Sonic is even awake. He hasn't missed a single day before. This is a break in Sonic's routine, so it's making him anxious," Sticks was saying weird things, she always was.

"That actually makes sense," Tails started petting me, "I didn't even notice Shadow was gone."

  How could you not notice he was gone!? He always here! I growled, I couldn't believe he didn't notice Shadow was gone.

"Hey Sonic," I ignored them and left.

  I wanted Shadow back here, I didn't like that he was gone. It made me feel weird when I thought about him without me. What if he doesn't come back? What he just leaves? Did I do something wrong? Why is gun taking him from me?

"Sonic," it was that voice again.

  What?

"Just remember the word, Love."

   ...Love? Why?

"It'll make us feel better, just until Shadow comes home."

   Love... I like that word. It like a warm blanket. I curled up in my bed and hugged the pillow Shadow uses. It smelt just like him, but it wasn't nearly as soft and warm.

   Love... Shadow... those words fit well together.
