Violet looked at the first lesson of the day, and tried not to cry relief with relief. At least, she could safely say, she wasn't being subjected to the spawn of Satan himself, maths. In her old school, she'd always been fairly good at science; not amazing, but of a high enough standard so other students would ask her how she'd worked out questions or about her homework. For someone usually so shy and reserved, it really had given her an opportunity to retreat out of her shell a little bit, helping people outside the suit for a change. It had also boosted her with some long overdue self-confidence and pride.
So the raven haired girl was pleasantly surprised to find that she was in the top set for science, which put her in a little bubble of happiness on the way to the lesson. She was looking forward to something she had been good at before, this time trying it in a new environment with new people. Then she saw who was in her class.
Now, Violet didn't like swearing, but now seemed like a good time.
Why is he in my class? Ugh, what bad luck. I should have seen it coming, he's the son of a genius, of course he'd be good at science. Maybe I could transfer classes? But I don't want to lose my set 1 spot! Well, he'll just be in my class, it's not like I'll sit next to him.
Just then the teacher called the seating plan. They had clearly been reading their fair share of high-school fanfics to know the drill. "Violet Parr and Wilbur Robinson, please take the seats at the back. " From across the room, Wilbur winked. This time, Violet did swear.

Violet had been ranting for several minutes straight about the Idiot she had Sat Next To in Science, and her parents had been watching whilst holding in giggles that one guy could wind up their relatively calm daughter so much within just one hour of science. It had to be some sort of record.
"And he kept telling me all these random science jokes, like 'why can't you trust an atom? Because they make up everything!' then he'd look at me to see if I laughed. (I didn't, they were all rubbish) We did a project, right, and he was like 'oh I'll do it because I'm such a clever science wiz, blah blah blah my dad's famous blah blah blah I'm an asshole, and I was this close THIS CLOSE to shoving the damn thing up his - "
Elastigirl intervened quickly before an assassination was planned. "Woah woah cool your jets Vi or else you'll take off." Smiling, she patted her daughter's hand, hoping to diffuse the situation. "You'll get used to him. It's not really his fault, he's trying to be friendly-"
"Mum, he winked at me like 10 times. I think friendship is the LAST thing on his mind."
Helen Parr laughed aloud. "Give him a chance okay?"
Sighing heavily, Violet looked at her family. "Fine."***
"Surely you're not slightly worried about this Wilbur guy?" Asked Bob Parr, when the rest of the family had gone to sleep, and the sky was painted an inky blue. "Nope," she replied, sipping her tea conspiratorially. "I want to see how this pans out."
A/N me too Helen, me too.
