Finding Wilbur was easy; he was located in front of the school, by the steps, taking out his remaining sandwiches (he had lots of sandwiches that day) and feeling rather sorry for himself. A twist of guilt knotted itself in Violet's chest and she clutched his bag tighter to her chest, took a deep breath and strode over to the munching boy, who looked up as she approached.
"Hey," she whispered, feeling really shy all of a sudden, "I'm really sorry how I treated you in the lunch hall, it was rude of me, you didn't deserve it. " Her dark hair fell over her eyes, and Wilbur resisted the urge to push it behind her ear, though why he felt it in the first place, he didn't know. "S'okay," he muttered in response, and watched as she reached behind her and pulled out his bag. Eyes widening, he took the bag carefully from her with both hands.
"Did I really leave that behind?"
Violet giggled. "Yes, yes you did."
Wilbur smiled back. "You try to make a dramatic exit, and it just ends up failing." He started making crazy gestures, before looking back at Violet and grinning. "Story of my life, really." he added, thoughtfully.
The dark blue-eyed girl beside him opened her mouth to reply when she noticed a figure approaching down the school steps. Uttering a quiet shriek, she dove behind the steps leading up to the school entrance, dragging Wilbur down with her. "What the hell are you doing?" asked the extremely confused Robinson, before Violet gagged him with her hand to shut him up. "Look," she hissed in his ear, "I don't want you to say a word, or think anything, or do anything, alright? On pain of death, stand there like a statue for five minutes please. I - I'll make it up to you I promise, just make sure you don't ruin this for me."
Ruin what? Thought Wilbur, as everything Violet had said had left more questions than answers. Before he could dwell on his thoughts any longer, the figure had appeared behind Violet, making her jump. "Do you need a hand, Vi?" Asked Tony, and Violet just wanted to die. So much for hiding then, she though to herself, resigning herself to her fate as she tried not to wince at who just spoke. She saw him holding out an outstretched hand, smiling but noticeably confused at what was going on before him. It was a polite, yet wary smile, like he wasn't sure whether this was a prank or not. Blushing, she grasped his hand and pulled herself up to his height, where both of them stood still for a moment, looking into each other's eyes like the romantic leads of a Disney film, until Wilbur decided to ruin everything and let out a loud cough. His attention wavering, Tony turned round, seemingly shocked to see Wilbur on the floor, before composing himself and offering him a hand too. For pride's sake alone, Wilbur rejected the help, and, still trying to regain his dignity, (as best one can whilst sprawled in the dirt with his precious cow-lick askew) Wilbur leapt to his feet. Despite herself, Violet tried not to giggle; he really did look ridiculous.
"So how are you're lessons going, Vi?" Asked Tony, trying to break the ice. Oh so they have nicknames already, how sweet, Thought Wilbur bitterly, before frowning at how petty he was being about someone he didn't really know.
"Oh, great thanks. I hate learning maths, but I'm getting better at it I think, but who knows, it's maths!" Tony laughed, and Wilbur found himself getting annoyed. Was that an inside joke? Why do I still care?! Straightening up, Wilbur put an arm around Violet's shoulders, silently congratulating himself on how smooth he was being.
"Her favourite lesson is science though, isn't it Vi?" Tony looked slightly taken aback; he seemed to have forgotten that Wilbur was even there. On the other hand, if looks could kill, Wilbur would be incinerated into ashes by the look Violet was throwing him.
"No, it's my least favourite as I have to sit next to this prick." Wilbur pretended to be shocked, and gasped theatrically, then added slyly "But you haven't tried to shake my arm off yet." Blushing, Violet realised he was right, and violently shoved his arm off, ignoring Wilbur's laughing. What a massive tit, she thought, trying not to miss the sudden lack of warmth.
Tony looked between the two of them; Violet looking anywhere but Wilbur, and Wilbur trying to make eye contact with Violet. "Are you guys going out then?" Silence. Both teens looked at Tony in shock and, in Violet's case, despair. "No, of course not!"
"It's just, we were...I was..."
"He was messing around, y'know, hah hah banter hah hah you're so funny...."
"Yeah, it wasn't literal right?"
"I'm pretty sure Wilbur has a girlfriend anyway, right?"
I do? Thought Wilbur, trying not to laugh. Keeping a relatively straight face, he added "Yeah, she's umm great. Y'know."
"What's her name?" Asked Tony, looking mildly interested, probably in the drama.
"Ummm....Vi- (Wilbur had a sudden violent coughing fit.) Errr....Tiiiip." The end of his sentence turned up as if in question. Violet looked up sharply. Tip was a person in her English and their science class, and for a moment she wondered if Wilbur did like her. She is very pretty, considered Violet, and I love her hair. Then she realised that she was being ridiculous, and jealous, and stamped on the irritating little voice with a pair of heavy Doc Martins to shut it up.
"Well that's a relief." Answered Tony, winking at Violet. And with that, he turned and walked out of the plot. Looking dreamily off into the distance, Violet muttered a farewell back.
She was brought out of her daydream when Wilbur turned to her and cried "Why did you have to say I had a girlfriend? Now I have to tell Tip, or pretend that we suddenly broke up, and Tip had a sudden memory loss of everything. Hey, Violet, are you even listening?" Finally Violet looked up to see him.
"Of course I am. Why don't you go out with Tip, she's really pretty?!" Wilbur gave her a look.
"I don't like her like that, Violet, I'm not going to date her for the sake of you alibi." Violet raised an eyebrow. Wilbur continued, half out of spite. "Look. I know you like that Tony guy, okay? You can admit to that too." Why did that hurt so much to say?
"I don't Wilbur, that's ridiculous." But it was obvious even to Violet that it was a lie.
Maybe Wilbur should've taken note of the sudden pain in his chest.
A/N: I'm sure can gather none of these characters are mine, but I'll put in this disclaimer anyway. These characters belong to Disney and DreamWorks, I just own the storyline.
